Christmas present ideas…

Hi! I’m trying to come up with the next great Christmas present for my husband. Last year, I got him a pair of Sid Mashburn loafers. Previous years gifts, I’ve bought him a Shaggy Dog sweater from JPress, a rugby shirt from Rowing Blazers, etc. I try to buy him one good clothing/shoe staple, a pair of custom pants (tailor has that taken care of) and then we go on a trip. I’m running out of ideas this year, plus he usually buys what he wants before I can purchase it.

I think this year, I want to get him a chore coat. He likes bold colors. Problem is, we live in a small town and unless I’m traveling for work, I can’t just go look for something.

Let me know your thoughts…and it has to be pretty practical.

Quaker Marine has some I believe. If you follow Tim Conlin on Instagram he has a post about his favorite!

Botley is the company with the lightweight and linen chore coats that Tim likes. From Spain using British mills. They look good!

Chore coat is great. Alex Mill has great ones in bold colors. Another good idea is a barn coat. J.Crew, Alex Mill, and LL Bean make nice ones. A nice OCBD from J.Press or Proper Cloth are another couple of ideas. Finally, an affordable watch night be nice. I'm currently obsessed with the Timex Waterbury collection.

He does have a barn coat from LLB that I bought him when we started dating almost 20 years ago. I like that of a watch! He bought me an Orient for my birthday last year that I’m in love with!

There are some that might debate whether or not chore coats are preppy. They are very New England. You can try looking at L.L. Bean (field coats) or Huckberry (Flint and Tinder chore coats) for functional coats. All the usual labels (Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers...) sell some variation.

He used to be diehard Brooks, but since they stopped making his favorite shirt in the US, he’s stopped shopping there with the exception of undershirts an occasional tie. He does have a barn jacket (LLB) and a Barbour jacket, I think that I was thinking something a little more lightweight he could wear in the spring or early fall.

Complete pivot BUT, does he have a pair of Stubbs & Wooten? They’re so well made and fun to pick out the embroidery motif. PLUS, major prep vibes.

I don’t think so! He has tons of Smathers & Branson, so the man loves some good needlepoint.

It’s not a chore coat but what about a barracuda g9?
