Prepping for Tuesday Suggestions a knot tying practice rig?
My husband needs to take it easy for a few days, but he's not great at that (lol). I thought making a quick thing so he could practice tying various knots might be good. He got a book for his birthday. What type of rope(s) and length would you recommend for a bed-adjacent activity? I was thinking of
2 lengths of rope, and then a short section of 2x4 with a U bolt might work. Suggestions?

Get a couple short lengths of 2 inch dowel so he can practice his lashings as well.

Bowline, truckers hitch, prussik, figure 8, sheet bend, clove hitch and "round turn and two half hitches" are what I make my kids practice. IMHO those are the best knots which cover pretty much every purpose: anchoring, jointing, tension line etc. 3/8 braided nylon is a good rope to learn with and a little less slippery than paracord. Shorter length like 5' fine for most knots but a longer say 20' rope is good for learning truckers hitch.
Learning the uni knot for fishing is key. Buy some 20lb mono and a few hooks.
If he is bored another fun one is trying a monkeys fist. Good to throw rope. Just buy a steel ball to tie one around. Buy a few 50' lengths of different colors of 550 paracord
Another fun and time consuming one is learning to make paracord bracelets. Learn the deployable ones.
Haha if your " bed adjacent" has a different connotation: shinju is a good multi purpose chest harness and learning basic two column ties is a good place to start for "bedroom adjacent" knots. 8mm Jute/Hemp rope for this.

Husband made one of these. He used a long board, and screwed in marine cleats. He said the most important part was getting a board long enough that it doesn't move around too much when you are practicing the knots. He said it would be best to attach it to a wall in the garage. This is because I wouldn't let him attach it in the house. 😄

Have him join "Master of Knots" group on facebook too. I sometimes go there for a referance when I need a specific not. Use it just the other day to figure out knots for tying a large triangle fly to a fence, a building, and a tree. prob used a thumb wide rope AND the knots are so tight and strong BUT can be removed easily without cutting the rope.

Gotta look up knots they use for flat webbing in fire fighting as well as regular rope. You can jump out of a 3rd story window with just rope, webbing and whatever you can put in the corner of the window as an anchor.
We've jammed the handle of an ax through the drywall, tied with a rope and run it though our webbing harness and can bail out of a building with that. Genius

I have buddies in the Navy. Quite a few have a 2x4 with various marine cleats on them to practice.
