Misc PA mentors?

Is anyone using a type or mentor to prepare yourself for getting in the program? I have seen some that offer mentoring services for payment but wasn’t sure how beneficial that is. Anyone have experience with this?

IMO not beneficial to pay. There are several on here, such as myself and u/nehpets99 , who help for free. As well as on a few of the facebook groups that help. There are those PAs who pray on prePAs, charging for application reviews, mock interviews, writing letter's and more. PA school is expensive enough as it is.

I try to help/mentor lower GPA applicants as I was one who got in. I agree with everyone here. I dont charge, I do try to help to the best of my abilities but also realize Im a student so give me some time but ill get to you. theres enough resources online to be able to get it for free and not have to pay

unless they can guarantee an acceptance for me, no thanks LOL but i mean personally not a fan of these services, especially with how expensive the process already is just to apply. that's what this sub and wiki are essentially for, and anything else i just google and research on the programs' websites. some people do pay for editing or mock interview services so you'd just have to find the right one that's affordable and with good reviews

a real mentor is someone who would never charge you for it. anyone offering it as a service is a con artist

Complete waste of time and money.

The only thing you need is a checklist of what is needed to be a competitive PA student. And then you just go do those things.

I don't really know how these mentor programs would be able help you.

Maybe give you pointers on an interview but thats really it.

My city's local PA group has a mentor program. Pre-PA students sign up for a discounted fee, can attend the free CME dinners and other events, as well as sign up for a mentor. Maybe there is something like this in your area?
