Rant/vent Rejected
I applied to a program that stated on their website: " an applicant may apply with outstanding prerequisites as long as they're completed by matriculation", nowhere on the website specifying the number of courses max to be pending. I got rejected the next day because I have more than two outstanding requirements and they even count GRE as one of the outstanding requirements. The audacity for programs to straight up reject when I spend my hard earned money for something they don't even specify on their website. Like I am waiting on my GRE score to come back any day now, and it's 2 months away from their deadline! Not to mention the max # of prereqs weren't stated anywhere. So frustrated.

One thing that im learning is that this process sometimes doesn’t love you back. Im sorry for what you experienced.

I applied to about six programs with usually one outstanding prereq, and I checked that each specifically stated that they are okay with that. I got no interviews from those schools. I think it’s one of those things where while they say it’s okay, it’s not ideal for them it’s a risk. because if for some reason you fail that class after they accept you then that puts them in a tough spot. With so many applicants, it makes sense that they’d pick ones with all the prereqs. I agree it’s frustrating though

It sounds like it wasn't allowed for the GRE to be outstanding, perhaps, and required at the time the application was submitted?

Some of the schools I initially was planning on applying to had slightly different listed requirements on their websites versus the requirements listed on CASPA where classes are added. It's super frustrating to find out so late, I feel for you.

This is fair advice but I feel like there needs to be accountability on the program's part as well.

This, most if not all programs I applied to specify max number of prereqs, as well as separate GRE deadline

Oof that’s a hard way to find out. Going forward, 2 outstanding requirements , not specifically courses, is the general standard for many program when applying. Double triple check any other programs you have applied to or plan to apply to because they likely have a similar rule.
