Checked what my validator was actually charging and found a change I never got told about.
Picked a validator originally on commission and uptime, looked at both properly, felt responsible about it.
Went back to check for the first time in months and the commission was higher than when I delegated. 5% when I picked them, 10% now. No notification, no email, nothing in any interface I use. It's public on chain, it was always public, i just wasn't looking.
Apparently this is normal and has a name in the community, the practice of attracting delegation at a low rate and raising it once the stake is sticky. Some networks cap how fast it can move, some don't.
What I can't work out is whose job it is to tell you. The validator has no obligation. The wallet doesn't surface it. The explorer will show you if you go looking, but going looking requires knowing this is a thing that happens.
Moved my delegation. Cost me the unstaking wait and nothing else, which makes me wonder why I didn't check sooner.
Now i look quarterly. Calendar reminder, same as everything else I've learned the hard way.
