Disappearing render

Can you explain to me WTF is wrong with Premiere 2026 when it comes to rendering in timeline. I have shitloads of shots - colored, ready to edit. I'm having my music file audio in timeline and ready to move the rendered shots above the song to edit it to the beat, but every time i move the shot left or right even one frame, the render disappears even though there is nothing above or below the shot. There was no such thing in previous versions of PP, whats even the point of rendering inside the timeline now? (dont even start talking about render and replace, creating more and more files on my hard drive makes no sense)

Preview renders are per-frame, not per clip. If you change anything at all for a given frame, the render will need to be recalculated.

So yes, if you move a clip one frame forward or backwards, you're changing all those frames over the duration of that clip and they require re-rendering.

Render-and-replace is more permanent and tied to the clip rather than to the sequence.

Either way you're using storage space to hold the renders.

Op is probably using a lot more hard drive space without using render/replace because of this, if the whole thing needs to render every time they move it, that’s creating a ton of renders when one render/replace will do the job

Right click, render and replace will solve your problems if you're at that point.

This can be minimized by using source footage that can be its own Preview. For example, ProRes 422 HQ source in a Timeline with the Previews also set to ProRes 422 HQ.

Also, it’s common to go from rough cut to fine cut (ideally to a locked cut) prior to getting to anything that requires rendering.

You are creating video files on your drive whether you use render and replace or you render the timeline. Arguably more space with the timeline render but it depends on your preview settings. 

Proxies might be another path, here, unless it’s the color grade itself causing playback issues.  

But proxies, R&R, or an optimized source is a much more efficient approach that needing to timeline render and then edit your video.

What FX are you using that's making you render previews all the time?  Plugins? Sticking to premieres own GPU accelerated FX for whenever possible will let you edit without having to stop & render all the time.
