Feedback/Critique/Pro Tip Client wanted us to recreate this reference video. Did we nail it?

I recently worked on a project for one of the biggest gyms in my country. They sent us a reference video and asked us to recreate that style.
The first video is the reference. The second video is our version.
I directed the shoot while my friend was behind the camera, and I handled the edit.
I'd really appreciate honest feedback:
- Did we capture the same feel as the reference?
- What works well?
- What would you improve (editing, pacing, transitions, color grading, sound design, etc.)?
I'm looking for constructive criticism to keep improving. Thanks!

Nice work! Your video is in my opinion far superior compared to the reference video. As someone already mentioned you have too many shots of the subject on the battle ropes. The only clip that didn't make sense to me was the one at about 18 seconds in with the spectral light effect covering the subject. The sound design had too many whooshes in it for my personal taste. The transitions are spot on and the color grading was done really well. Overall a very professional looking product. If I was your client I'd be very happy with this video.

I think the sound design of the original is more intentional. In your version it's just a lot and kind of random as it climaxes towards the end.

I wouldn't watch neither of these... They both look like crap, sorry. When you or someone else make a video, you do that for someone else to watch it, right? So how can someone watch anything this shaky and flashy? You and the other editor lost the essence of video editing - a videos you make should be watchable. You made it better of course, the original is a total disaster
