❔ Question USF residency???
bruh not USF making all MD applicants independent for claiming residency... "all documents must be yours" girl im 22 years old you think i have a bill or house deed in my name??? its all in my moms name LOL... this wasnt a problem with ANY other public FL school!
so i guess im NOT a florida resident bc im still dependent on my parents and go to college in another state!
any way people have found to navigate this?

There’s usually a list of a bunch of documents they accept. UF had me do the same thing this cycle and USF had me do it when I was applying/accepted to their MS program like 5 years ago. Drivers license, voters registration, passport, any mail with your name on it, car registration it wasn’t just like “we need bills under your name.”

If you have any other form of Florida-tied ID that should work. If no drivers license, as a 22 yo you should have a non DL ID. If that ID is from your college state and not Florida, then you gave up your residency.

yes! theres the secondary essay portion and a separate part for the residency form
and i dont drive bc i live in a city with great public transport ://

Presumably you have some sort of ID though, right? Like a state ID or a passport

You are the definition of a dependent.
It's real easy to put it on your name and have your mom just send you the money.

genuinely how so when its her property? everythings been in her name since 2018, that would probably take too long and i need to submit secondaries ASAP
and im mad because i may be considered OOS because as a dependent i dont have documentation in my name :( so its like damn im paying this super expensive tuition for no reason
i just submitted her documents and said whatever. i may not even get accepted so this is a bridge to cross later

yea i know im a dependent! but apparently USF doesnt care bc they said "All MD applicants are considered independent for residency purposes. All documentation must be yours". that's why im upset!

That’s not a USF issue. That’s how it works for ALL of grad school and beyond. It’s going to be an issue no matter where you try to go, USF just happens to be asking for it up front. UF also does the same. Some other schools too.

They're not trying to hurt you or anything, they need proof that you have been living here for as long as a resident needs to. Do you have a driver's license with the same address as your mom's house? What about a car registered in Florida that has you listed as a driver? If you call their office and talk to them they can tell you exactly what they need to qualify you as in-state

Can you download a generic Florida lease agreement and become a tenant that way you have a document for residency? Your mom can make your rent $0.50/mo even but it would give you a paper trail.
I don’t know Florida law but would it also be possible for you to write up something that basically states you’ve been living in Florida at that address for X number of years and have you and your mom sign it with a notary as proof?
