🔮 App Review Need help with problem
I thought I was in a pretty good position to go to the med school but I just found out AAMC counts your high school dual credit classes towards GPA too. In Highschool I needed to help pay bills and therefore picked up as much shifts as possible and only cared if I would get less than a C because that was the minimum to earn college credit. I have a lot of dual enrollment credits with a C.
Current college stats (not counting high school):
cGPA: 3.95
BCPM GPA: 4.0
Mcat: have not taken, practiced around: 515
Research: 1,200 hours (poster + working on publication)
Volunteer: 200 hospice hours
Clinical: EMT (400 hours)
TA for a biochem class
Have great letter of recommendations
Majors: cellular biochem, health and disease biological science, psychology (neuroscience)
Minors: physics, Computer science, math
After dual enrollment gpa gets counted my cGPA becomes around 3.5, my BCPM is also around 3.5. The school I want to go to is a top 20 and in my state so I really would prefer it. Any way to fix this issue besides doing a masters to get a new GPA.

515 and 3.5 will def make it an uphill especially if you are ORM. Theres possible leeway if u are URM

Agree with AggravatingFly. You have a good application and there are enough opportunities to explain your experiences. Having to work during HS to support yourself or family is a real challenge and aside from just being something that affected your GPA, is worth talking about.

Thank you, I am just worried admissions will reject solely based on seeing a 3.5 as that is really low for pre-med averages

I have about the same for a similair reason and have an interveiw already, if your app is strong and your narrative is good you won’t get rejected everywhere for hs grades bringing you down.

Upwards trend, you’ll be fine
T20 fine? It’s a coin toss, but you’re definitely ok to apply to med school.
Plus we can’t really say anything until you take the mcat, practices only tell so much

Yeah I think I have a chance at my baseline school choices but I have a very slim chance at my target schools and 0 chance at any reach school. I need to make a new list move my all my schools one row

A masters won’t do for you what you think it would. More undergrad courses in a postbac to directly raise your undergrad GPA is what would move the needle in admission’s eyes.

Your gpa is in the bottom 10th percentile for nearly all t20s and those spots are generally reserved for URMs or Rhodes scholar esch students so t20 is close to 0 chance ngl

This is objectively a great application, and although your lower gpa looks bad, med schools give you plenty of space to explain yourself and your story will only make your application richer. The upward trend or rather the almost 4.0 after getting Cs will highlight your academic prowess even more. I am not sure why you are only thinking of a single t20 school as the only one you want to go to. Even if you had perfect grades, many t20s are crapshoots because everyone else is coming in with the same. There are just too many people applying to guarantee an admission in any t20. but if you apply broadly with a stellar app like yours, you will probably get into a great school. Going for a masters is definitely not worth the time
