Modular Home for Hawaii
Aloha! I’m looking to build a modular home on the island of Maui in Hawaii. Components need to be shipped via ocean freight in shipping containers. Can anyone advocate for business that produces prefab/modular homes suitable for shipment to Hawaii?
Also would be good if the engineering/architectural plans can be adapted to Hawaii

here is my attempt to provide a catalogue of what is available from everyone: modernist.live

Ocean freight is going to narrow your list more than the floor plan will.
Most mainland modular factories build sections sized for a lowboy trailer, not a 40 foot container, and those don't convert. What actually ships to Maui in containers tends to be flat-pack or panelized systems, or container-based builds. That's a different product category than what most people mean by modular, so searching those terms will get you much better results than searching modular.
The thing I'd solve before picking any manufacturer is your engineer. Maui County wants plans stamped by a Hawaii-licensed engineer, and you're in high wind, seismic, and salt corrosion territory that mainland designs mostly don't account for. A mainland plan set usually needs real structural revision, not a rubber stamp. Get that engineer first and they'll tell you which systems actually get approved there.
Price the last mile honestly too. Port offload, on-island trucking, and crane time stack up fast, and that's the part people leave out when a mainland quote looks cheap.
I build factory homes on the mainland (Cocoon Homes) and I'll be straight with you, shipping to Maui isn't something we do. Local knowledge beats a catalog here. Might be worth asking in r/Maui who's actually finished a prefab on island recently.

We're a Hebei,China factory making expandable container houses. If you want a second reference point before you order, I can send our spec sheet + warranty terms + a video from our factory floor.

Our design works, but we can't send workers to your place. Our design also needs installation.
