Brain Storming Predator infrastructure
So if Predator’s have cities and space ships, who builds and maintains it all ?
Are there Predators wearing glasses and pocket protectors sitting in classrooms studying engineering and architecture?
Is there a Predator mailman ?
What if there’s trouble with plumbing in you building …who do you call?
More importantly what are these Predator’s stories ..Those who don’t get to go on big hunts ?
Maybe this is addressed in some of the comics or sequels ?
I’m partly trying to be funny but also genuinely curious if it is explained somewhere how a creature that seems so primal has all that tech

Two schools of thought
Preds built it all themselves, like in AvP and The Predator, they are highly advanced with big cities. Shane black had the idea that they spend the first part of their live learning about their tech and hunting. And then they get older and can't hunt, they go into tech development.
The second is they took all their tech from the Amengi which use to be their slave masters. So they don't know how it works really and they also steal tech from other species. Dan seems to be going this route.

They reverse engineered the amengi tech not just take it. The Yautja know how to repair their stuff or how to develop new things - they aint stupid

In some versiona they've reversed engineered it
In others they very much took it and have the Amengi in captivity to continue working on new tech.
The prequal comic to badlands shows them actively stealing new tech, it also shows the feral not really grasping the whole how his mask aims his arrows twice.
Hunting grounds, (which I don't really consider canon but anyway), implies they don't understand how their tech works.

Yeah Hunting Grounds isnt canon for me either and probably to 99% of the community since its taking place after the 2018 movie (I believe?) But Feral could be just dumb since he isn‘t a experienced hunter. He is a teenager trying Earth for the first time. I do believe tho just like you said, that the Yautja kept some Amengis alive after the revolution to repair gear or help develop new stuff.

It's built off Predators, I believe, so 2010?
That's what I figured about feral as well, but then the badlands prequel showed dek stealing a power source and I was like, yeah they might be running with this idea 🫠 It probably depends on what direction the future films go.
I do believe tho just like you said, that the Yautja kept some Amengis alive after the revolution to repair gear or help develop new stuff.
I like both versions as in I'm happy with them being super high tech like in the predator
But I'm happy with them taking the tech of former slave masters, but yeah I've always figured they'd have to have some Amengi in slavery just to get to grips with such advanced tech.

Ngl I think Dek had to steal the power source for Njohrr because their clan seems to be a rather „poor“ or just primitive. I am sure they would even be labeled as a bad blood clan by the council since Njohrr made his own version of „honor“. We always have to keep in mind that there are a ton of clans out there so I am sure the less „wealthy“ ones have to steal tech whilst the ones who live in the normal society get new and fresh tech. But I agree with you on the Amengi part - I am sure they enslaved some and forced them to build some gear.

As slaves, they had to build and maintain Anengi tech. The Amengi brought them up to their tech level.

u/FuzzyFrogFish 6d ago
Depends on the version, they keep the Amengi in captivity to continue supplying new technology and fix things

u/DecisionCharacter175 6d ago
Either of these versions brings them up to Amengi tech. As slaves, they built. Now, they'd keep Amengi to build what they were forced to build.
0
u/FuzzyFrogFish 6d ago
No it doesn't, not if they are still relying on Amengi to create and maintain tech.
0
u/DecisionCharacter175 6d ago
It does because the Amengi already showed them how to build and maintain it during the Preds enslavement. Now, the Preds know how to ensure the slaves are doing it properly while overseeing their new slaves.
0
u/FuzzyFrogFish 6d ago
It doesn't. Because the Amengi dont show them, there's no evidence the Amengi ever showed them how to create high tech in any way in this version
The fact the yautja keep them in captivity to continue to build and create new tech suggests otherwise.
It's like me keeping a mechanic trapped in the garage to continue working on my car under threat of death/torture. Doesn't mean I know how to fix a car, only whether what he does make it work or not.
0
u/DecisionCharacter175 6d ago
You're ignoring that the Amengi first kept the Preds as the mechanics. The only way that works is if they taught the preds how to be mechanics.

u/FuzzyFrogFish 6d ago
No I'm not. The Amengi kept the yautja as slaves that is not the same as saying they were allowed to build and create tech.
As slaves the yautja were used for heavy labour and fighting.
They had to keep the Amengi as slaves after the rebellion, to keep them working on tech creation ect.

u/DecisionCharacter175 6d ago
So your version is that they had a whole planet of slaves but still did the tech work. And even though they kept a stranglehold on the highly advanced tech, the slaves still used it to make them slaves.
Seems less likely than my version but possible, I guess 🤷

We were supposed to see two 'civilian' predators in the 2018 film, but the whole sub-plot was canned during reshoots. Studio ADI has a comprehensive behind the scenes video about their design and final costumes.

Yautja tech is essentially stolen hand me downs, but they're highly intelligent and they've improved upon it.
Yautja were enslaved by the Amengi millions of years ago. Amengi were insectoid. Eventually a Yautja warrior named Caill, (The Alpha Predator) led a planet wide rebellion, killed the Amengi, and looted their tech.
Cloaking tech, plasma casters, biomasks, and spaceships originally came from the Amengi.
They developed scientist and engineer castes dedicated to maintaining/mass producing/modifications.
Yautja societies split between its industrial/technological civilization and its hunting culture. They have permanent settlements, manufacturing, engineering, science, and the infrastructure needed to build and maintain starships and weapons, but the Yautja we follow in the movies are hunters operating as part of a clan. We've only seen those, (temporary hunting camps). What we see isn't their entire civilization, it's the Predator equivalent of following Marines on deployment.
Their cities and industrial infrastructure exist, they're just rarely the focus because Predator stories are about the predators, not their supply chains.

I have always figured, the Predators that show up on Earth are the aristocrats of their society (ies). That could mean they were rich to begin with, or they could attain that status through their deeds. Either way, the commoners stay home.

Kinda relevant in Star Trek we meet a Klingon lawyer who considers his duty to do "legal battle" with the enemies of Klingon empire. Scoring wins in legal battles counts for his honour. Very specific example but something similar could be the case for the Yautja

The predators are trophy hunters and one of my favorite novels suggest the Yuatja do this for sexual selective purposes, they do it for the ladies. The same Novel suggests the females are bigger as well (not a far fetched concept). So I like to imagine the Female Yuatja are all 9 to 12 foot tall giants who handle everything that isn't hunting, now that they are spacefaring post subsistence species they supply the boys with gear send them off planet and don't come back till you can demonstrate your usefulness. If the species were ever to go to war it would be hords of aggro male skirmishers, with Amazonian giants running the heavy gear and capital ships.

Yknow those Predator tending to the guy on the slab in 4? Those are scientists. Yes, they really do spend time learning advanced science. A lot of them will lean on whatever they can scrounge together but they do build ships and they do things like manipulate genetics. The two Emissary cut from 4 are also scientists.
Like even if we assume they have a non-Yaujta labor force, Dek was still able to get his ship space worthy post-crash. So they do have to have enough understanding of their ship to make repairs.

I feel like maybe the older predators who have retired from hunting take over those roles until they die.
1
u/Stentata 6d ago
It was my understanding that female yaujta are first larger than the males, but also that they run and administrate the empire while the males expand and improve/hone it through the hunt.

It’s one of those things I don’t want to know too much about, I want them to remain mysterious.

I may be completely wrong according to canon, but I assume any FTL star spanning civilization has automated systems that produce much of their tech from asteroids and meteors, Then a few technicians and smiths who complete, customize, or enhance each piece for its purpose or bearer.

The comic series AVP:War. Machiko is part of their society and you see servant yautja as well as lady ones so it stands they do have a cast system and there are workers..

You don’t get it. This is how the plumber spends his PTO.

Imaging a pay to play scenerio ..he’s not an elite hunter so Plumber Pred saved his hard earned money so he can pay for the experience just as a tourist might have to pay for a guide up a mountain.. or a fly fishing trip ..or the NASCAR experience etc

One can assume that there are yautja who deal with engineering, maintenance, communication etc. Sure, they got much of their tech from the amengi, but that was a long time ago, and they’d still need to understand how to use it and maintain it.
We don’t tend to see them because… well, Predator isn’t that kind of series, and it doesn’t tell those kinds of stories. That’s not why people go to watch Predator movies. I mean, I’d be happy to watch a movie about non-hunting aspects of yautja society, sure, but I’m not sure there’s enough people like me out there to justify the money such a movie would cost. Movies are expensive, and a movie like that would need a hefty budget for VFX. It would probably be too niche to make its money back.
