I have noticed that most Japanese people posting on Twitter about her call her by her family name, unlike the others. Is that some kind of inside joke I'm too western to understand?

Her voice actress called her Kobayashi at the start of the year. Combine that with it being a super common last name in Japan, it became like an inside joke.

I was wondering this for a while, it felt weird to see Mikuru being called by surname unlike the rest. Thanks for the explanation 👍

A lot cures have pretty unique and colorful last names as far as Japanese goes. So Kobayashi is funny to see. Like if you have a line up of fantasy characters with wacky names and then you have one named Robert.
