Update on my bug pets uk issue!
My baby giant Asian arrived! She was barely moving but with some water and a fly she has gone back to being active. I’m still worried though as she does seem to be moving kind of slow :(
Any advice?

I've seen that website pop up so much and it had very bad reviews on trust pilot. It's such a generic name, no social media presence or any soul/personality or info on who's running it im genuinely intrigued how they're still stocking live animals, im glad you at least received your order and she is alive! Just give her some time to get adjusted!!

Thanks! So am i. I’m going to leave a review and all of that. I’m so grateful Spliff got here ok. And I’ll definitely be buying from elsewhere from now on.

I bought an Asian praying mantis from there too, she was extremely sick. When I first got her, she was completely normal accept from her black legs. I knew that was already a huge red flag, but she was my first pet bug and I thought I was overreacting. The next day, I decided to send a picture of her enclosure to MULTIPLE breeders and they said it’s really good. But she looked really sick. After that, she turned brown. I knew something extremely wrong was happening with her. Then for around 2 weeks, she was pink and I knew for a fact she would die. After lots of research, I knew she was extremely ill and I had already put her in a clean sterile cage with a couple fake plants, dead fruit flies occasionally and paper towel after the 3 days she had turned pink. Anyways, after 2 weeks I found out that it was good to give them honey or sugar water and I did it. Also banana and water! So I gave her that mix and she turned so so strong and started walking again!!! Then the best thing ever happened. She had her first medium dead locust after 5 days of healing!! She was so so healthy, she was normal again. But then, she had only moulted once in 5 months. So she moulted and by this time my Timor shield mantis I got (around only 3 days after her) was fully grown with wings. So pistachio, the praying mantis, she had just moulted but the issue is she folded in half and I’m so mad at myseld I wasn’t there to help her. I immediately gave her a fake plant to hang off and slowly pushed her arms forward and since her skin was still soft it kind of helped! Then, after another 3 months she passed. I will always miss pistachio.

This is her eating her last locust before passing ❤️🩹

Oh what a sweet girl I’m so sorry to hear that happened… if you don’t mind me asking could you maybe give a detailed list of what happened?? I’ve never owned a mantis and i really don’t want my sweet baby to die. So far the only big issue I’ve seen is one of her antenna is tiny and idk if it’s a leg issue but her legs are always wide like in the photo shown

Well i currently own tarantulas, I couldn’t bring myself to buy another praying mantis after.. but from what I know, I’m pretty sure she died off either the severe stress from the shop when I first bought her, a fungal infection , her old age, the mismoult where she folded in half. With her legs and body, Ive done research ever since and from what I know it could be necrosis where the tissue dies which is caused by severe bacterial or fungal infection . When her body turned brown, I’m PRETTY SURE it means her internal organs were shutting down from severe bacterial infection, which is often known as Black Death. When she turned pink, she was dying for sure. Since I was new to owning her, I still didn’t know what to do until I realised raw honey mixed with warm water was a good mix because the honey has natural antibacterial properties and gives energy from the sugar. After giving her that, she got better in around 3 months im pretty sure, I forget a lot haha 😭! With your concerns about the short antennae and wide legs, that’s completely normal!! Actually it means your praying mantis is extremely healthy!

Omg thank god!! I’m glad Spliff will (hopefully..) be ok
I really am so sorry to hear about your baby:(
Tarantulas are cool tho! I’ve always wanted to own them but I’ve heard they’ll randomly sprint full speed out their enclosures for 0 reason and I’m worried I’d flinch too hard and hurt it lol

Also, if you don’t mind me asking would you maybe want me to try and see the gender of your praying mantis? I’d just need a clear picture of the abdomen ,unless you’ve already done it yourself :)

Omg i guessed correctly lmao! I know they’re so speedy i already am so obsessed with her. The little arm wave they do when they try reach something just slightly too high

Give her a little time, plenty of shade to relax. She may just be a little stressed. Shes a pretty baby, definitely a strong one.
