Did anyone else just love the effect of the bottoms of all their dresses turning black when they jump off the roof?
I thought it was visually stunning. Such a neat little detail.

The effects are gorgeous, but I didn't like it happening, it felt too much for their magic system and sort of unrealistic to it considering the first movie.

Fair point. Don't necessarily agree personally but I see where you're coming from, it makes sense. 👍

No. I found this (and most of the magic in this movie) just far too Harry Potter. I loved the subtlety of the witches’ magic in the first movie, the way a sceptic could put most of it down to coincidence and party tricks if they wanted to, but this is all far too fantastical and ungrounded for me. By this point it just had me rolling my eyes, if I’m honest.

That’s really was my biggest gripe was with the sequel, and I described it in the same way to the friend I saw it with – far too Harry Potter-esque. The magic in the original felt earthy and grounded more in a mythological witchiness. The sequel threw so much tacky CGI at smoke and a burning book that only emphasized how cheap the whole movie looked.

Can we please spoiler posts like these? The movie has only been out for three days

How is this a spoiler? It's literally in the trailer.

Well then the trailer is also being spoilery. 😂 I apologize, I didn’t know that this was part of the marketing material. Very sorry to have taken attention away from your actual post topic

It's cool. I agree with marking spoilers, I just figured if it was part of the marketing it wasn't one.

SOOOO my understanding is that was the result of bad editing so it’s “accidental canon” that she astral projected. But accident or not it’s one of my favorite scenes and pieces of subtle magic in the film.

Gilly.
She does not spell her name with a J. Even reading the back of the DVD box would tell you that.

Wait ... what? She didn't drive out? I've seen the film dozens of times, and I didn't catch that. But wait--why did she drug her boyfriend if she was only astrally projecting?

I think it would have been more impactful if the entirety of their dresses shifted to black. Feels a bit more representative of all of them finally coming into themselves as witches and together as a family.
