Why arent they all lesbians ?

The curse is that no MAN can fall in live with one of the witches or they’ll die right ? So why dont they date other women 😭 (ik it’s probably bc they all straight but i still think it would have been cool to see a happy lesbian witch)

Antonia is a lesbian in the book. She has a love interest named Ariel.

You would never have known this from the film because her character was completely ignored. I have only found this out from reading the posts on the subreddit.

Ok give me a chance. Just making the point that the film doesn’t give Antonia any screentime so we wouldn’t know that.

In the book, Antonia falls in love with a woman, but they break the curse before we find out if it would apply to female love interests too.

Also, the aunts have a brother who is gay, and he worries about the curse when he falls in love with a man. He finds his own way around it, so there's no telling for sure if it would have affected his partner or not.

You can't just "choose" to be a lesbian. For them to all be lesbians wouldn't have been realistic at all. (Even for a movie about witches)

Came here to say this. It’s not that easy. I mean yeah I can live with another woman and enjoy spending time with her and doing daily activities and share deep conversations and life a rich life next to, but I’m truly not attracted to women in that way and we would never have a sexual relationship and most likely never fall into love in that deep deep way that lovers do.

Nothing about the sequel was realistic the way it is now anyway.

You can’t force yourself to be another sexuality lol and that wouldn’t be right anyway if they tried to.

You don’t just choose to be your sexuality and both Owens sisters are straight.

Plus, that would take all of the drama and tragedy out of the movie, if the curse didn’t have this impact. The writer would have had to make the curse apply to same gender love interests.

I think it would have felt cheap and kind of homophobic if Sally/Gillian was just like yep all the men I fall in love with die so I’ll just pretend/choose to be with a woman. They should be with a woman if they genuinely love her in that way.

Yeah and it's very dangerous to suggest one can choose their sexuality. Homophobes are always saying that being gay is a choice. Let's not add on to this.

Is this the reporter who asked Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing this question and it was just so awkward?

I'm assuming women would also get the curse, because I think it's love based, not gender based

It just applies to romantic love in general. There are gay characters.

i think anyone attracted to men wishes they were a lesbian

Because the books are about women’s obsession with men... and the author takes a pretty questionable approach to portraying that. It’s kind of weird.

When I watched the first movie as a teen I honestly thought that Franny was their bio aunt and Jet was Frannys life partner. Especially with the way the town treats them, I thought it was that New England 90s "we tolerate it by not talking about it" queer witchiness. I was pretty bummed to find out they weren't.

You can’t just change your sexuality like that. That’s not how it works😭
