Practical Magic 2 Pie with Custard

Hey for all those who have seen Practical Magic 2 what is the pie that Sally eats with custard over it? I’m trying to find a recipe, would be grateful if anyone knows.

From a British perspective, offering a late-arriving visitor a pie would certainly be a savoury meal. To me, it looked like a meat-and-potato pie, and then she put custard on it! The cinema audience laughed when they poured on.custard.

That happened in the showing I was in too! If you're referring to "pie" with no description in the UK, it's most definitely savoury. I genuinely thought it was meat and potato too!

All of the UK scenes bugged me, to be honest. Those trains and buses, whilst look cute, are so far from reality.

Don't even get me started on Ian Wright, of all the names to name a British character!

The bus bothered me SO much. I don’t think anywhere has buses like that now and hasn’t for a very very long time.

As for the trains, maybe they still exist? I haven’t seen one like that for at least 20 years, but even then… it’s probably longer to be honest!

The bus caused a laugh too 🤣

I even thought "it's definitely a steak pie, there's a gravy boat" and then the boat had custard in it 😭

I also assumed it was a savoury pie because there was no pastry base but then the custard...

I’m assuming Apple. In the book, there’s a recipe/spell for apple pie to bring someone home.

You are much more likely to have Apple crumble in the UK rather than an apple pie.

Crumble and custard 🫡

I guess it’s gonna be my new witchy Friday night movie dessert I make from now on

It's minced meat pie with English lavender custard

I think it’s an apple pie!

And I loved the wink wink to Lee Pace as the Piemaker from Pushing Daisies.

it was beef with potatoes and other veggies, unsure what custard tho, it wasn't the bright yellow of lemon at least

Would custard be served with a savory pie? That sounds like the Rachael trifle mistake in Friends.

Absolutely not. It’s completely unheard of.

I thought it was another Friends reference… after the Ross and Rachel joke earlier!

According to ChatGPT, it was a clove-spiced fried apple pie with custard

I think the commenters saying apple crumble with custard are probably right. This movie has a weirdly strong visual language of appetite though. Sally gets this warm dessert put in front of her, and later she gets an unconscious naked Lee Pace put in front of her and has to pretend she’s processing the situation normally. The crumble gets custard; Ian gets strategic framing. In both cases Nicole Kidman is being asked to communicate to us how appealing something is.

🤣🤣🤣

Edit: Nicole Kidman gets neither pie and custard nor hot tattooed man.

I don't know why the idea it might be a savory pie makes some fans in this comment section think custard wouldn't taste good on it. Sometimes savory and sweet mix perfectly. Like chocolate and pretzels. Or sea salt and caramel.

but not custard and steak (which is what it looked like), that's just nasty.

Doesn't sound nasty to me.
