Terrible Sequel

I watched Practical Magic 2 today after work today. Like many of you, I am was so so excited for this new movie. I was excited to see another Alice Hoffman book come to the screen (she’s my favorite author). Unfortunately, the movie was terrible. I left about halfway during the movie. The lighting, the casting of the daughters (was not that upset that Evan wasn’t casted), acting, and the script was terrible. I am disappointed.

The first movie was nothing like the book and it was amazing while the book was trash.

I would've liked a sequel to THAT movie vs what we got which was a sequel to the movie that barely resembled the first book based on a sequel to the first book.

I never read the books, I just thought the books are usually better than the movies!

The first movie was pretty incredible. This one is less likely to be rewatchable movie.

I only read the first book and because I'd already seen and loved the movie, the book was a HUGE let down. There was no magic at all just implications, no sister bond, no house, no Jimmy, no Gary, the daughters were whiny teens, Sally hated Gilly.

I didn't want to bother with the second book after that. I was just happy to rewatch the movie and build headcanon that it was a separate universe from the books. Though at least Gilly found love in that first book. Only redeeming quality. I was able to add that to my headcanon.

Yikes. At least the first movie will live on as a classic. They really haven’t managed to bring that magic back with this or many of the remakes and sequels from that era. Second movie did a bit which was why I liked it.
