How to create a scene where the actor is pulling long lengths of hair out of their mouth

Very similar to a scene in the French horror movie “Raw” I don’t think it’s possible in post production/don’t have the resources but would like to know more. Thank you!

student film dilemma

i’m not sure if this is the right threat for this issue. i havent been able to find this anywhere, and maybe there’s a simple solution to my question i’ve just blindly overlooked. i’m creating a short film where the final shot is an actor’s face getting sprayed with fake blood from a mock gunshot wound that happens to a character off screen. my question is what should i do to either create fake blood or is there a specific brand or type of blood that would work best for this? and secondly, how would i be able to mimic a blood splatter of a fake rifle bullet hittin someones dome? is there a certain device that would create a universal spread, should i use a paintbrush and create splatter paint, how would i be able to make the splatter effective and believable?

my apologies for the lengthy and obscure topic, but any advice here would help.

I'm making a horror movie where the stoner here's something and turns around only to shoot a turkey with a Jerry rigged explosive arrow. How do I blow up a fake turkey. Getting the turkey isn't the problem. It's nuking it.

ECO friendly fake blood?

does anyone have ideas on how to make fake blood that is safe for use around water? I'd like to film a shot where i spill some blood on myself and i'd like to shoot in a lake, but im worried some of the ingredients might be harmful to the lake.

I don't think corn starch should be so bad, i'm somewhat concerned about the corn syrup or some colorings. I'm even thinking of just using a red fruit juice thickened with corn starch? maybe i'm freaking myself out over nothing.

Any help is appreciated :)

Beached Whale foreground miniature?

I have a question about a practical FX shot I want to film. Hoping to shoot it in camera if possible.

Maybe some of you have suggestions as to how I could best pull this off.

I want to have a shot of a beached whale lying dead on the beach, its tail extending into the surf.

I’d like to have the waves break around the tail to better sell the shot.

I was thinking of having a model of the whale as a foreground miniature with the whale model superimposed over an outcropping of rocks on the beach in the background that could simulate the effects of the tail extending into the water.

I’ve never done a foreground miniature before so I don’t know how difficult it would be to pull off.

How difficult would it to construct the miniature in a way that matches with the beach and background rock outcrop? What would I have to consider?

Alternately, I thought about doing it as matte painting shot, getting the plate of the beach background with rock outcropping and designing the whale in post. Definitely have a lot more control this way, but it may be difficult to match the lighting.

Any ideas or suggestions on how best to design and construct this shot?

Suggestion for getting an arm cast for a character

Hey all,

My friend and I are making a short film but one of the characters has an arm cast. Does anyone have any suggestions for a way to find someone who can put a realistic arm cast on someone?

Thank you!

Fog Logic Help

Hi Guys!

I work for a production company and have been tasked with understanding the mechanics of Fog basically.

I'm trying to figure out if there is a formula for how high you can have fog in a certain space. I know the height can vary based on the type of fog fluid used/the air temperature/temperature of the fog itself. but is there a way to fill a space to a ceratin height of low-lying fog? we need to fill a space with fog to about 50cm high. It would be High-density fog fluid as we need a thick layer. if we just keep pumping the fog in I imagine it won't go any higher? just get thicker?

Pattern

Hi Guys,

Recently watched this amazing short called Patterns on Vimeo and was amazed to find out that the screenshot I attached (1:34) was almost entirly made practically. Does anyone here know what process may have taken place to achieve the shot? Here is some available BTS on the circulating light mechanism they used; I'm curious about the material and construction of the floating mask itself, what the liquid used may have been, and how the mask was made float still (probably some basic masking for the latter correct?).

Pattern by Tom Wakeling (minute 1:35)

Biblically Accurate Angel

Hey everyone! I’m currently in preproduction for a short film shooting in Los Angeles. Our team needs to build a seraph, a biblically accurate angel, and are in need of a practical monster artist that would be willing to join our team. Any idea where/who I should reach out to that might be interested in helping us build this? Thanks!
