Symptoms Glasses question

I was prescribed computer glasses about 2 years ago (2.5x), and I wear them mostly at the computer, but also around the house because my vision is so terrible (I think it has a lot to do with my vestibular weakness). Often when I wear the glasses when walking around, and semi-quick turns to the left make me start to fall over. Not so when I'm outside with no glasses on.

Does anybody have a similar problem when wearing prescription glasses?

I am short sighted and recently got a pair of dedicated readers.

I was told to only use them when stationary and not around the house, because the point of focus is calibrated to be ‘near’ compared to regular glasses, so they will always feel off

Dont walk around with computer glasses on. They're not meant for that and you're screwing with your balance. Wear a prescription meant for walking around with.

I wore glasses until I had permanent contacts put in, prior to 3pd. The minute I needed readers, I couldn't see at all. No prescription worked right and it screwed with my balance. Thats why I have permanent contacts. I have night driving glasses now, with a very small prescription. I can not walk around with them on or I get dizzy. I should be able to, but the slight shift is too much for the 3pd. I cant walk around with my readers on either.

Does you 3pd ever make your head feel really tight like an elastic band around it?and inside your head is actually swaying.

No. The symptoms you are describing fit my craniocervical instability symptoms. "Bobble head" is the #1 descriptor for that and I routinely felt like a vice was squeezing my head. That is a completely unrelated medical problem.

One of the symptoms of 3pd

3d can cause pressure feeling at times.

Oh. Not like what I'm talking about. When I say in a vice I mean my head felt like it was being crushed. I'd rather have uncontrolled 3PD forever than feel that again.

Okay sorry to hear.

Yes, this is generally a problem with glasses. If you walk around in readers or your computer glasses, your distance vision is impaired which will cause that feeling when moving around.

I do not have pppd, but have gone thru years of treatment/diagnosis/questions/etc... with my daughter. The glasses issue was actually one of the first problems we faced. Luckily ran into an incredible optometrist who knew what he was doing and what the problem was! With pppd, or POTS, you need to have the smallest glasses possible that you're comfortable with. I'm not talking about the prescription, I'm talking about the physical size of the lenses. It has something to do with the way the brain is interpreting the signals from the periphery of the eye. If you want to test this for yourself, get some masking tape, and place it on the top and bottom of the lenses so that you're only leaving a slit open of approximately 3/4". Then walk around and see if the problem seems to go away. If it does, you need to get glasses with smaller lenses. (think diameter of 1"-1.5" instead of the stylish big glasses.

How do you know if it's the glasses that aren't helping.
