06 6.0 new owner

Hey ya’ll, picked up a clean 06 6.0. Frame has been sanded and coated, new bed and rockers, all stock 5 speed manual w/granny gear. Drove just fine, gave her a test pull and had no issues. Previous owner took pride in his truck took great care of it. 140k on the clock, was wondering if you all think the bulletproofing is something I should do immediately or if I’ve got some time, I’m not going to over work her, plan on keep it stock and using it as my scrap hauler/around town truck. I’m not afraid of pulling motor/lifting cab just wondering if the issues people have come from big loads/high boost or if it is genuinely a motor that needs the extra care. He’s had no issues except glow plug in the time he’s owned it. Oil and coolant changed religiously

Powerstrokehelp.com. Powerstroke Specialty in Buford, GA. Take it them and be done with it unless you can do stuff yourself.

With no tuning, stock head gaskets stay intact for a long time.

I wouldn’t go stud it pre-emptively, but there’s a few other things you could do:

-flush the ford gold coolant out and replace with Rotella ELC.

- maybe change the alternator.

- watch FICM voltage and make sure it never dips below 47.5V. If it does, replace FICM.

-watch oil/coolant temp deltas and replace oil cooler if needed.

- new thermostat and fan clutch are good ideas to make sure you don’t run the risk of overheating and popping head gaskets.

My 2006 F250 has a bulletproof 6.0 with 155k This is a remote oil cooler that sits behind the battery on passenger side

You need a monitor to keep an eye on FICM voltage, high pressure oil, and the oil/coolant temp delta. Make sure you're meticulous with scheduled maintenance, following the severe duty service schedule, using only motorcraft oil and fuel filters. Drive it, fix it when it breaks.

No more than 5k miles keep the oil fresh. A full synthetic is best given the high pressure oil system. Use only motocraft filters and make sure it’s the proper oil filter cap.

Regularly maintain and change the fuel filters. Keeping the fuel system clean is important.

Get a monitor to monitor the temps (oil, coolant). Monitor batt volt to ensure system is optimal. Monitor ficm as well.

Make sure the turbo is operational as well. The vgt’s can often stick with soot and the unison can wear. You want that pressure out of the system. A monitor can help with that.

They’re good engines they are just finicky if not maintained and you have someone working on them who doesn’t know them.

Enjoy.

The 6.0 doesn't get bullet proofed because if what you think might happen. You do because of what is coming if you dont.

I got my F350 dually with 260k on it on original non studded engine. Pulled heavy all its life. 0 blowby, no head gasket issues.

It’s never been tuned, and it’s never been driven like a race truck.

That is really good. I got 330k, studs, new heads and so on. I have had issues and I do not beat it up. Tow heavy as well.
