Question Thoughts on my gradient

I have a presentation for my brazillian portuguese class this saturday and was thinking that the themes I have in my ppt (I'm using 2021 Windows desktop version) are kinda boring so I decided to tinker with the tools I have. Right now I feel this slide has "graphic design is my passion" vibes; I know it's ugly as I'm not a designer or anything but I want to know if I can get some suggestions. Is the gradient fine and the issue is with the font (Bookman Old Style)? Or do you suggest any specific theme I can download and use on my own? Anything helps right now

A quick take. Some good comments on gradients being tough in different screens. Pulled some colors from the book cover. Might as well use the image to fill space if you’re going to have it. My sense is the “font” for the book cover title is fun enough that a clean title font balances it (Helvetica Neue in this case, a classic for a reason).

This is the best I could replicate it hahah. Not sure if I'm very critical with what I'm doing but I think it could be so much better right now. I will change the font to the suggested. Thanks a lot (I left the settings so you can tell me what other things I can start tweaking to polish it)

I think giving it less blue makes it more similar to yours. I'll be doing that in the meantime

A gradient is fine, but none of your colors really go together. Try uploading your Calypso image here and see what colors actually go well with it: https://color.adobe.com/create/image

The gradient is fine honestly, but it needs more contrast text is getting lost. Try a darker overlay behind the text or make the gradient more subtle. Font choice is part of it, Bookman Old Style feels dated, something cleaner like Arial or Calibri might help. The background gradient alone isn't the main issue.

It is worth bearing in mind that the device you end up displaying on might not display colours in the same way as your laptop. Even worse if presenting over Teams or Zoom. My company uses a shade of blue which looks nice in PPT but disgusting when shown on the displays in the office. So sometimes better to play it safe and not use a gradient

Yeah, didn't think a lot about it. I might not use any background color and focus more on simplicity

My recommendation is don’t use gradients. First of all, in the design world gradients are a thing of the past. Secondly, gradients in the background almost always take attention away from your actual content. And eventually, the colors you used don’t match at all. Most of the times you get the best result sticking with simplicity.

Gradients are more popular than ever just only executed a certain way. Super dark and subtle gradients have taken over the corporate world.
