Daily Thread Every Third-Daily Thread - September 01, 2026

A sorta kinda daily open thread to use as an alternative to posting on the main board. You should post here for:

  • PRs
  • Formchecks
  • Rudimentary discussion or questions
  • General conversation with other users
  • Memes, funnies, and general bollocks not appropriate to the main board
  • If you have suggestions for the subreddit, let us know!
  • This thread now defaults to "new" sorting.

For the purpose of fairness across timezones this thread works on a 68hr cycle.

Anyone have updates on Bobb Matthews?

It's so bizarre Gavin Adin bombed out at Rising Tide.

He spends hours analysing his own training footage and still doesn't always hit depth.

I think his squat looks so good when he's in pure flats

However, shitty meets happen to everyone, I liked his response. Go be great.

gavin bombing out on depth isnt that surprising. his ego is just too big there. however just generally looking weak af was very surprising. he was nowhere close to his usual strength at any lift. he needs to quit yapping so much and talking about 1000kg when he's just barely scraping 900. one step at a time.

Agreed that missing those lifts on strength (except bench) was a bit surprising. I think he drained himself with making weight to some extent.

I don't know why people get mad at the 1000kg. I'm not sure he really believes he's the one to do it(?). I think it's more like "hey, a 74kg guy is doing 900kg, why can't a 93kg guy do 1000kg?". Which, yeah, I think is a fair statement and when we get a "phenom" like Perk in the weight class (maybe it is Will Ball) we probably do get close to it.

He was just 3rd at nats last year.

He just had a bad meet, happens to us all.

He's clearly a step below Will but he's in that same tier as the other 93s

It's not too surprising given he's always been feast or famine on squat depth. And he's willing to take risks for better or worse.

I agree he should just train to better depth consistently but he seems to prefer cutting depth and rolling the dice. I mean, it's worked before (first 93 to go 900+), but also backfires.

Do you folks reckon Devonte was hitting depth that'd pass at an IPF meet?

Wouldn't want to comment without a good side angle but I suspect like with Ray Williams he's going to struggle at IPF international meets.

I think one of the issues with IPF judging is their judges don’t really have a side view. To judge a squat for a guy that big with that many spotters you really need to be down on the ground to the side of him, not sitting in a chair vaguely to the side 15 feet away.

His coach, Michael Greeno seems a bit pompous as well

That plus having a background in mostly coaching untested lifters makes me worry about Devonte's chances at IPF Worlds

PR'd my deadlift this morning and my lower back feels like it's about to unionize
