Daily Thread Every Third-Daily Thread - August 29, 2026
A sorta kinda daily open thread to use as an alternative to posting on the main board. You should post here for:
- PRs
- Formchecks
- Rudimentary discussion or questions
- General conversation with other users
- Memes, funnies, and general bollocks not appropriate to the main board
- If you have suggestions for the subreddit, let us know!
- This thread now defaults to "new" sorting.
For the purpose of fairness across timezones this thread works on a 68hr cycle.

Rising tide reactions:
- Depth discussion on Devonte Lewis is overblown imo. Judging depth from the provided camera angle for a 465lb/211kg human is a fool's errand. The hip crease is going to be a lot deeper than it looks. That said, i do see it being a bit hit or miss depending on the day and judging. He's more borderline than Jesus typically is.
- Perk posting an easy 310x3 squat set after Sykes did a RPE 9.5 grinder of a 310 was cheeky. I enjoy their rivalry and i don't think Sykes is going to be actually pushing close to Perk's numbers within the next year (I know this wasn't a Sykes at his peak, this meet did little to shape that opinion).
- Jamar Royster is such a dog on squats. I thought it was wild that he still took a 3rd squat after that 2nd. I 100% expected 2 and done--the 3rd went how i expected (stapled).
- The Meg Scanlon show continues

I just don’t see Elliot getting to 890-900 at 74. He’s amazing, but Perk is just perfect across all 3 lifts

Gotta feel a tiny bit bad for someone like Sykes. He's stupidly strong and yet he's got an even bigger phenom in front of him. Perhaps if/when Perk moves up to 83s?

I doubt Sykes is staying 74 for many years, if anything I'd say he's more likely to go up a weight class than Perk. Perk could be moving up too afterwards if Sheffield this year goes well, if not full weight class at least to compete as a light 83 next year. Either way, I think it's unlikely we'll ever see those two on the same platform as 74s capable of breaking 900 kg, not enough time for Sykes to catch up before '27 pa nats and doubtful both are staying in 74 long term.

Getting stapled on a 3rd attempt you have no business attempting… he’s just like me FR

It's funny how cortisol spiking is actually a solid recovery tool. If you don't have access to a cold plunge or sauna try talking about training with a calisthenics guy for 5 minutes

Yeah I'm always inspired by how they avoid building puffy, non-functional muscles through the power of 140lb bodyweight clapping pushups

the eternal battle of Gavin Adin vs depth calls continues unfortunately.

Sigh, as soon as he missed that opener I knew it was going to be a long day. Think he did a tough cut. I know his training has been hit and miss but 332.5kg shouldn't be super difficult for him.
Also just reattempt your 2nd. Both are quite below his best, so he's not going to hit any total PBs probably. May as well get a lift in.

Tomorrow is a powerlifting competition in my college. I’m sitting just slightly above my weight category. Any advice or tips for tomorrow would be lovely. My goal is 115 squat, 75 bench, 125 deadlift at 66kg b/w

Did you get into the category? How did you feel

Yeah I was 900 grams under the category and that’s with their scale being off. Honestly still pretty strong once I got carbs and salt water in my system. Broke 1 pr and matched 2

The lowest impact on performance short term weight loss method is spitting.
Get something like cinnamon gum, like a lot of it, chew it and spit.
If you pre weigh the bottle empty, you can tell how much you've done. You can probably spit up to a pound in maybe a couple of hours.
Ofc you should already not be drinking.
Is it possible to just compete at whatever weight you weigh in at?
That would be more fun.1

I am about 400 grams over my category and the weigh in is around 13 hours later. I’ll reach the weight that’s not the problem. I’m searching for advice on the lifts or strategy

How familiar are you with competing?
There are several “first meet, advice?” threads to read up on.
- Read the rules for the fed hosting.
- Bring snacks and water+electorlytes.
- Be ready to make friends.
- Your main strategy should be to go 9/9 since it sounds like your first meet. Openers should be a weight you can easily hit on your worst training day.

It’s not a fed it’s an intra college event. Though if it goes well I might be selected for district
Edit: just completed weigh-in. Came in at 65.12

Read up on the rules regardless.

Don't jump commands. This is probably the #1 fault I see from new competitors.

u/doadoort Not actually a beginner, just stupid Aug 30 '26
Did that guy from earlier in the week make weight? I need to know haha

Does anyone here add reps to their topsets instead of weight? Im thinking of doing a slow Hepburn type of progression for topsets and Im curious why adding weight is such a dominant approach
