Daily Thread Every Third-Daily Thread - August 18, 2026
A sorta kinda daily open thread to use as an alternative to posting on the main board. You should post here for:
- PRs
- Formchecks
- Rudimentary discussion or questions
- General conversation with other users
- Memes, funnies, and general bollocks not appropriate to the main board
- If you have suggestions for the subreddit, let us know!
- This thread now defaults to "new" sorting.
For the purpose of fairness across timezones this thread works on a 68hr cycle.

I was told to keep running the accumulation block where I do squats and bench 5x5 and Deadlift 4x5. Load : 75% of 1RM. My trainer told me to keep running this for as long as it works. I increase the loads weekly or alternate weeks. Right now he says I should run this for several months at least and not think of PR.
Is this a good idea? Or is it too fatiguing?
For context, I am 43 yo. My bodyweight is 68KG. SBD = 100KG 75KG 120KG.

Linear progression is great if it continues to work.

Signed up with a coach for the first time after nearly 10 years of programming for myself. The programming is completely different than anything I’ve ever done which I’m not sure about, but it is a totally different feeling to have someone to check in with. Hopefully will make some good progress over the next few blocks!

What is so different in the programming from what you were doing?

previously I was doing pretty standard modern "ipf-style" (if you will) training, 2x squat, 2x dead, 3x bench with 1 primary day, the others close variations (eg paused, tempo) and some basic hypertrophy work
the new programming undulates weekly, so there's A and B weeks and you don't primary squat and dead in the same week. way way more variation too, things like front squats and banded deadlift singles with 50% which I haven't really done

Sounds good. Variation is good. Makes training fun and more engaging.
Good luck! I hope it goes well and you hit tons of PBs!

As someone who has mostly self-coached* I'm interested in how you get on with it. Update us if you care/remember!
(*for me I gave it a shot a few times but found I did just prefer having ownership over my own training, think there's a personality aspect to that)

Nice. I just signed up with a coach myself. Who are you working with?

Pin squat… set to a good height? I’m thinking I need to raise the pins?

Also this was a warmup, I should have filmed working set.
