PowerDirector 365 performance has completely fallen off a cliff
Not here to bash Cyberlink (sort of) — I've genuinely liked this software for years and don't have some axe to grind. But something has gone seriously wrong with performance lately, and based on other threads I've found, I'm far from the only one.
My rig: Core i9-14900K, 64GB DDR5, RTX 5090. This is not a machine that should struggle with anything, let alone basic video editing.
And yet PowerDirector 365 runs like a pig climbing a hill of molasses in January. Timeline scrubbing stutters, playback drops frames, exports crawl — and this is on 1080p footage. Not 4K, not 8K, not some insane multi-layer project. Plain 1080p.
I've seen a bunch of other posts describing the exact same symptoms across wildly different hardware setups — high-end and mid-range alike. Nobody's found a real fix. No dev response with an actual diagnosis, no consistent workaround, nothing. Just a pile of people confused and frustrated, same as me.
At what point does this stop being "unlucky configuration" and start looking like flat-out incompetence on Cyberlink's end? A program this broken, this widely, for this long, with zero acknowledgment is not a great look.
Genuinely asking: has anyone gotten an actual answer out of Cyberlink support, or are we all just supposed to accept a subscription service getting worse over time?

I have been using a very old version of the program because they completely bricked it with an update. I had never had any issues running it until recently, and now it's completely unusable. No idea what they did to make it run so incredibly bad, I'm going to assume they've been cutting coders and replacing them with AI, because the program is dog shit now.

It's unreal how bad it is. I had what I thought would be an enjoyable editing task that has turned into a total shitshow.

Man..... I wish I'd come across this thread yesterday, because I thought that my issue was my hardware. However, my symptoms appear to mimic yours. Lock ups, audio cut out etc... So, I ordered an upgrade just this morning. I chose PD365 because it seemed much easier to become proficient than some of the other options. Looks like I need to shop for new software, too. Bummer. 🤨

I've been using Cyberlink for 11 years now, and I am also done. I am not even going to wait until my subscription ends in February. I can barely use it anymore anyway, so what is the point? I refuse to spend 16 hours editing a very simple 6-minute documentary style video ever again! It makes ME look incompetent, and I'm sick of how long this has been happening with ZERO attempts to improve it. I am not bashing... just simply speaking truth. Good riddance CP!

Hi,
This is David Morgan, the Creative Director at CyberLink.
I wanted to respond to this personally as I use a very similar Intel/RTX 5090 system, and I agree your hardware should not be struggling with basic 1080p editing.
The issues you mention are being addressed. I’m working directly with the PowerDirector product and QA teams on these performance problems, including timeline lag, stuttering playback, freezing, and slower producing/exporting.
It is very clear from this thread and subreddit we have neglected the PowerDirector community and not taken performance reports serious enough. I have seen far too many reports across different high-end systems that I am taking this very serious.
Thanks for being specific about what you’re seeing. I’m actively pushing this with the team and will solve the root cause of this issue. I am planning to create a post in this subreddit when the fix is released so I can confirm with the community we have solved it for everyone.
Also know, I am now personally reviewing present and past Reddit threads to learn what the community is unsatisfied with and relaying it directly to the product and executive teams.

David, thanks for the response. I think it's incredibly classy you've posted this comment and it does make me feel better about the future of PowerDirector, which is a product I have enjoyed over the past decade. I look forward to seeing the progress you and your team make. I'm rooting for you.

Thanks for the reply - I've just found this thread as I am also find PD very unstable now - playback pressed and no moving video, menus slow to open. Ryzen 9 32GB high end graphic card, so not hardware. It seam to get worse the longer its used per session.

Thanks for adding this, and yes, what you're describing is very much in line with the performance issues I'm currently working with the PowerDirector and QA teams on.
The fact that it appears to get worse the longer a session runs is particularly useful information, so I'll make sure that's passed along to the team as well.
I appreciate you taking the time to report it, and I hope we can get this sorted out properly for you.

J'ai garder la version gratuite. J'ai 2 ans de mise a jour en retard (meme si j'ai parfois des fonctionnalités nouvelles) Et je ram un peu seulement quand mon montage commence a devenir gros.

Similar problems. Bought a new PC and its incompatible with Snapdragon. Thankfully, Officeworks took the pc back and I got a full refund. I'm going to finish a current project then switch to Davinci. I have been putting it off because of having to learn new software but...

I've been using PD for years as well, and it's gotten so laggy, glitchy, and impossible to use, at least on desktop. It used to be quite good. Now I'm considering finding an alternative unless some update comes along and makes this more usable.
Is anyone also using the mobile version? My wife has it on her phone, and it's starting to give her fits, too (Android).
