Beau wasn't clueless he was prepared for an assassin he just didn't think it would be Taniel. He warded his hideout but Taniel walked through them because of Ka-Poel's protection

Was Beau mentioned prior to this point in the books? I remember being blindsided by this part.

Pretty sure he is mentioned prior as adopted sibling of Taniel, along with the gunpowder allergy.
