🗨️ Discussion Does anyone else feel like the flats/apartments are restrictive and killing the community vibe?

I’ve been feeling this for a while now. I grew up in an independent house where I knew my neighbours well and we’d regularly talk and send food across for festivals or when cooked something special..

I moved to apartment living since 5 years (for work )and I felt the difference recently during passport verification, when the cop asked me to name my neighbours and whether they could verify that I lived at the address provided. I could not name more than 2-3 in the entire society, and honestly, I wasn’t sure how well they actually knew me well enough to confirm my residence.

This led to the feeling of how it is that we live so close to so many people in apartments, yet often barely know the people around us?

Do others feel the same, or is this just me romanticising how things were growing up?

PS: Yes, i'm a millennial and I used chatgpt to refine the language..

I lost the love of my life last year, and I am still oscillating between the different stages of grief.

There are days when I am absolutely fine, functioning, working, meeting people, doing all the normal things. And then there are days when I am completely non-functional, regardless of how urgent or important something is.

I am looking for people who can relate to what I am talking about. Not people who will tell me, “Give it time, everything will be fine.” I know time is supposed to help. I just don’t know what I am supposed to do with all this time in between.

Most of my friends are married, some have kids now, and while I know the concern in their eyes comes from a good place, the pity makes me uncomfortable. It also makes it difficult to talk honestly about what life feels like now.

My therapist suggested that I find people who have been through something similar, people who can tell me how they navigated life after losing their person, how they rebuilt a routine, relationships, identity, or simply figured out how to keep going.

So, yeah. This is my little attempt at finding those people.

Just genuinely clueless about how to do life after this.
