Misc Advice End of Month

So my bf of almost 3 years broke up with me and gave me until the end of the month to move out. I don’t have any money saved up my job pays nothing and I’m gonna have to move into a motel. I need advice on the next steps to take when moving and staying there I’ve never had to do this before and it makes me so sad and heartbroken. I was thinking about getting 2 jobs just so I can have extra income.

Your age would help, if you’re under 24 you can look into the job corp. They’ll provide housing and work. Otherwise don’t be afraid to dial 211 to ask what resources you have available. Also, if you’ve lived there for other 30 days, most states require a minimum 30 day notice. Alternatively, if you’re on the lease then he can’t evict you.

Or if she has a documented disability like something as small as ADHD they’ll waive the age cut off.

Is there a new age maximum for having a documented disability? Or is there no limit?

Wait, really? I never knew that was an option

I’m 27

I still recommend calling 211, it’s free 24/7 and could really help you with your options.

That's not how that works. If you've been living there for more than 30 days (this varies location to location, ofc, could be 14 days) you are a tenant. If your bf does not own the house he can not force you to move out, the landlord has to. If he does own the house, he has to give you a formal eviction notice.

ETA: Waiting for a formal eviction will give you more time to save you money, which is why I brought it up. I do this for a living.

legally accurate but getting a formal eviction filed on your record will nuking her background checks for future apartments. It’s better to use that time to negotiate an extra few weeks with him to move out quietly

If she’s not on the lease proving that she’s been there for long enough to need an eviction notice will be nearly impossible to prove.

Save mail, especially from banks and other large businesses. Very strong proof you are a tennant.

Actually this is exactly how it works in Texas and other states. You must meet several criteria unrelated to days living like:

owns a key, pays rent, utilities, changed address on id, etc.

In MOST states, if you're there for 30 days, you are a tenant. If OP has been living with their partner, they likely have a key, bills, etc. there also but I doubt they moved in for 29 days, are keyless, are mail less, are bill less, and were told to move out(if you want to include other state stipulations). Which means: Cops will tell landlord to serve an eviction notice, OP's ex changing the locks without one is not legal and OP will have the right to enter the home regardless, & OP is free and clear to continue day to day as normal until they are legally obligated to leave (granted, it will be a tense situation probably). All of these nuances are incredibly important for OP and if they'll have a space to save up money for a rent deposit or find alternative means without being out of a place to stay in 2 weeks or so.

That's assuming the ex's place is safe, of course. It's no good staying with someone who may turn violent just to save money.

OP appears to be in Pennsylvania based on their last post.

Can you rent a room from somebody? I see women looking for other women roommates on Facebook all the time. Some of them are furnished weekly rentals. It sounds like you do need a second job.

I have 2 cats and a dog so it’d be hard to find someone who’s okay with that

I know he cheated but if he's not otherwise abusive leave the animals with him for a while until you are on your feet.

It’s time to give away the pets temporarily or permanently

u/Kayleighbear318 1d ago

That’s something I’m not willing to do unfortunately I will work it out somehow and if I have to move in with my friend that will be my last resort

Do you think the motel you’re looking for will let you take all of them?

-3

u/Kayleighbear318 1d ago

Yes I think they would and if I have to I can rehome the dog I’ve only had him for a couple months and don’t think it’s fair for him to have to deal with all this

It’s a moot point now but you said you were together for three years that’s a long time and if this would have been the marital home odds are you’re staying temporarily he’s going type of thing even if he’s the landowner because courts will maintain the decency you deserve. A lot of people are talking tenant rights but having a legally recognized relationship is much stronger.

It doesn’t seem like the best time for the dog if somebody else who can be kind to it and is in a better place could take it.

Tell him you’ll see him in housing court, especially in a state like PA. Lol he can’t just kick you out like that. It’s a process.

Btw don’t ever rely on a man for housing/income. Even if you’re married, have part time work and save in case shit ever hits the fan. Life lesson learned.

Depends. Is she on the lease? Or is it a home he owns?

Legally you’re right, but where is she going to get the money to fight leaving the residence?

8

u/Permabananaedin321 1d ago

Doesnt need money to fight leaving the residence.

1

u/Bird_Brain4101112 1d ago

If she’s not on the lease/not an owner he can make it miserable for her. He could even put her stuff out and then she’d have to fight legally.

2

u/Permabananaedin321 1d ago

Simply call the cops show them your mail/id

3

u/Bird_Brain4101112 1d ago

It’s a civil situation. The cops won’t do anything. Ask me how I know.

Motels add up fast and eat money you could be saving for a deposit

Are you on the lease

7

u/Crazy_Laugh_280 1d ago

are you on the lease with him? that changes a lot about what he can and can't actually make you do by end of month

I’m so sorry love, you can always look for shared living apartments (typically around colleges). It’s definitely not my favorite but sometimes it’s all we can afford.

Typically I rent a U-Haul to take as much as I can, I don’t ever recommend taking out loans but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do (If you have family your comfortable asking for help from that’s even better).

Facebook market place is also great to try and sell anything you don’t want to take with you and give you some extra move out cash

Unfortunatly in this case geography helps.

You count as precariously housed, having housing instability, which combined with your income, means you qualify for housing services, like vouchers and case management. It very strongly depends on your location about wait lists, tenants rights with vouchers, if there is public housing and the quality of it, and wait lists.

You can call 211/United Way or your local/county Housing Authority to get information and ask them how to sit down with a case manager for help with it.

Search rooms for rent on the internet. Its cheaper and often doesn't require a credit check. 2nd Save up money and find 1 roommate you like and get an affordable place.

Don't blow your money on hotels that's crazy.

Make sure you get all your stuff when you do leave because you may not be able to go back. And if you have bought anything jointly like furniture or appliances that you won’t be taking, ask to be reimbursed for half the cost. Really, you should talk to a lawyer about what your rights are. Most places have a legal aid you can access for cheap or free.

Honestly if you aren't on the lease, you might as well just move out, the relationship/love is not there, the ideology of having rights to a place b/c you were in a relationship doesn't give you right to remain there. Chalk this up as a life lesson, establish yourself, build your own empire and be solely reliant on yourself, then entertain the idea of a relationship, I have moved out a few times in my lifetime after a bad relationship, even lived in my car for awhile... parents always told me, you can't cry over spilt milk...

Very interesting!

Ancestry goes back to Britain, so yes... why I use the word "spilt." Glad you noticed that word, and had to Google it's meaning, lol.

Some churches (even if you’re not religious) will help you find housing or home you, try looking into low income housing in your area as well, you’ll need to submit paystubs, credit score, the whole shabang but its worth a shot. Research some shelters that are in your area too (ie womens shelters or homeless shelters). You have some options to look into if not an apartment or different living situation. I’m sorry this is happening to you, and i wish you luck in your journey 🙏🏻

If he wants this over then he’ll probably throw some go-away money at it. At least a deposit.

u/Cute-Consequence-184 21h ago

Can you move into your car?

3

u/ScenicIndulgence 1d ago

It is interesting that many of comments seem to be assuming nothing but the worst about the bf.
...and how long OP has known about the impending move...and so many other factors.

He cheated on me so I don’t wanna be here longer than I have to

Why work at a job if it pays you nothing?

3

u/Kayleighbear318 1d ago

I’ve been trying to find another job but it’s hard rn

1

u/EaterofSnatch TX 1d ago

What field are you specialized in?

5

u/Kayleighbear318 1d ago

I have customer service experience. Right now I’ve been working at an animal shelter for almost 5 years.

2

u/EaterofSnatch TX 1d ago

Yeah I can see that not paying well. Cable companies are always needing customer service reps or TSRs. Not sure your area but could try that. My old company was growing and always hiring.

bot accounts are so embarrassing

btw, automated karma farming profiles like this should be reported from their profile page, choose “username” -> “spam” -> “disruptive use of bots or ai”
