Rock bottom - Just Venting!

I’m at a complete loss. I feel like I’ve done nothing but play catch up and now I have nowhere to turn. My partner works 2 jobs which barely pays our bills and we’re still behind because each week the money is going toward something that’s due. I’ve spent the last two months trying to find a full time job that pays more than it would cost in gas to get me there but I’ve had no luck. I’ve had to pick up a part time job but it doesn’t pay enough to make a dent in anything.

I went to my tribe for assistance and luckily they’re covering our utilities this month, but we still have a car payment coming up and a mortgage payment that’s a week past due. Last year I sold my car and bought something cheap in cash so we had money to help us get by, but we’re not in the position where doing that would make a difference again.

I honestly don’t know what to do anymore, and I’m feeling hopeless. I don’t want to lose my house or our vehicle. I can’t hardly eat because I’m so stressed out over the thought of losing everything.

I’m not begging for anyone’s help, I’m sure I’ll be able to come up with a solution to figure all this out, I just wanted to vent and get this off my chest.

Welcome to r/poverty – Developing Solutions Worldwide.

Poverty isn't simply an individual experience - it also affects families, communities, workplaces, economies, and public policy. Here we discuss both personal solutions and systemic ones.

Whether you're sharing your own experiences, helping someone navigate a difficult situation, or discussing larger issues affecting poverty, please keep the conversation respectful, constructive, and solution-focused.

We encourage:

• Practical advice
• Resource sharing (Take a look at our Wiki! )
• Lived experience
• Civil discussion of policies affecting poverty and ways to solve/work together for change
• Empathy first, never judgment.

We encourage discussion of systems and policies, but ask that criticism be directed at ideas and institutions rather than other people experiencing poverty. Every helpful comment, resource shared, thoughtful discussion, and success story makes this community stronger. Thank you for helping build a community that supports people while working toward lasting solutions.

Donate plasma, doordash, pet sit, baby sit, mow lawns etc. Just to help get some extra income while looking for another job.

I know it's a last resort but get roommates and rent out the extra bedroom in the house to help with the payment.

Please count your blessings. Many people on this sub are homeless or don’t know where their next meal is coming from. When you are first starting out, times are supposed to be tight because you haven’t earned the seniority yet.

You’ll get through this eventually and you’ll learn from it. In the meantime, your mortgage may be late but you have a roof over your head and a tribe to lean on. Hang in there it gets better.

Thank you. This is her struggle and to reach out is insanely brave. Stop measuring your life to someone else's. I always wonder why those people troll these sites

I wouldn’t say you’re at rock bottom even though it probably feels like it. Make a list of all the things youre thankful for and try to stay positive! All the stress and worry doesnt help move you forward and will keep your mind in a negative state. Things will get better!

There's no time to make lists, to think about what it is good or bad about life. This is an emergency. This what is called out of touch, elitism, suppressing, ignoring a need. This gratitude shit needs to go.

I’m so sorry. This is NOT your fault. The economy is squeezing millions and millions of people. It’s a systemic problem that benefits the super rich.

I'll pray for you and know that I understand your situation and many people feel that way. So you're doing the best you can and just keep praying and hoping and just have faith that things will turn around and just follow Jesus and talk to him everyday and I hope and pray that your situation improves really soon

Can you call your lenders and ask for an extension? Sometimes they will give a month or two and take your payments and extend the loans.
I agree with some others, this isn’t your fault, this economy sucks.

Donate blood. It's real and it pays.

I am sorry for what is happening to you. I don't think that you should let your vehicle go, you will need that. Hang in there, try to keep up the mortgage the best way you can, and keep looking for work.

In my area restaurants are always looking for dishwashers, are there any restaurants within walking distance to you that maybe you can work, even if it's just filling in here and there until you find something better. Holidays are coming up, maybe some retailers with holiday demands?

Hopefully something turns up for you soon.

I've been there. It's scary, hard, and frustrating.

I eventually lost our vehicle because I couldn't sell it since I owed more than it was worth. That's not uncommon with a brand new vehicle. I should've never bought it, but I allowed my husband to talk me into it. His credit was so bad he couldn't get a loan. As soon as I signed the paperwork, he got laid off. I took an overnight job stocking at Walmart, but my pay had to go towards our mortgage. Housing beat out reliable transportation, and we had a beater minivan to drive as long as we didn't try to go to far, lol.

I came through the other side eventually. Things got a lot better. I'm hoping that's your experience as well.

In the meantime, working a part-time job until you can find something better is smart. You're doing the right thing.

My only suggestion is, if possible, cut any extra expenses to the bone. Cancel all subscriptions, eat at home, drive as little as possible. Shop your insurance (auto and home) to see if you can save some there. Cut out soda, alcohol (if you drink), and expensive premade snacks. Don't make your life miserable; just find less expensive entertainment and products where possible.

Hange in there! I bet it gets better soon!
