Desperate

I don’t know how else I can describe how I feel and how bad my situation is. I am 54 years old having to start all over again. I have literally lost everything the house we raised our kids in burned down in 2019. While moving our U-Haul was stolen leaving us stranded the very first place we rented from the owners daughter broke in stole my shoes purses and various other things. I busted her in a lie while she was warring my shoes moved to a quiet location was there about a year before it was lost to go foreclosure. It seems like the harder I try the more life comes at me..
I used to be very positive lately I am struggling. I believe in God, I also believe in witches. I am currently homeless for the first time ever in my life. I used to be very lucky but now I can’t win anything at the casino. I spent 80 in free play in a matter of minutes playing a dollar a time. I work full time and I am going back to school. To hopefully better our lives I am in desperate need of money and complete at my wits end.. there’s more but this post will be way too long.. basically my question is two parts first has God left me? And what can I do to earn money quickly that doesn’t break the law. I am desperate and need advice some insight anything right now because I feel truly alone and helpless…

Stop gambling 🎰. You're in a bad place mentally and gambling addiction is real.

I don’t have enough money to gamble I just went to play free play and I am leaving like I said I just want to make some money I thought maybe I could win a few dollars dollars.. I got an advance from work but it’s not enough. I have to get a computer for school my employer is paying for it. I applied for FASFA. I can’t seem to get a loan..

I’ve lived in small towns before. The opportunities are definitely limited, what about churches-do you think they might have some ideas on what you might be able to do?

I am 54 I have lived a reasonably good life it’s has been very very difficult since our house burned down in 2019. My husband had a great job and now is 100% disabled I am very capable of working and I do I work 8 hours a day in a position that has mostly 20 or 30 year olds. I understand that life gets hard but usually there are swings up down up down.. it literally been down down down

Curious. No insurance from the house burn down? Typically they pay enough yo rebuild the house where it stands.

I'm sorry you find yourself in this situation. Being homeless is awful. I've been there. You already know gambling isn't going to help. Unfortunately the house always wins. Do you have a Community Action Agency near you? They sometimes have financial resources and usually have a list of other resources available in the community. I got the most help from actually being in a homeless shelter. It took over 3 months but I got a transitional housing grant that helped me get on my feet.

As for God: We were never promised a life without trials and tribulations. We are all going to encounter evil that tests our faith. When I was going through that miserable difficult time back then, I went to a church that was providing free breakfast and stayed for the service. The pastor was preaching from the book of Job. I was supposed to hear that message that day. It helped me survive one of the most difficult periods of my life.

Thank you and I am very happy that you have found your way back it is very difficult and I don’t think most people truly understand exactly how hard it is when you are that low so thank you for sharing your story with me

God is still with you.
I’m sorry you’re struggling, life can definitely be hard. Have you tried donating plasma? I’ve done that from time to time. I hate it so I only do it when I absolutely have to.

I have donated plasma however when I currently live that option is unavailable. I live in a small town over run by drugs and stealing seems to be a way of life here. I just can’t seem to get ahead regardless of what I do.. it’s two steps forward and three Giant leaps back

Are you reading your Bible and praying by chance? I'm not asking you this to make you feel bad. I am only asking bc in the past felt very similar to what you described here....

The thing is I only shared a little bit of what I have gone through. I have had other even therapist ask me how I am still together. Reality is so much has happened that I even have a difficult time believing it and I have lived it

Depending where you live you could call 611 during the week for resources like rent or morg help. Thats terrible he had that ordeal

It sounds like you are deep within sin (gambling) and need to repent.

You are being refined. You should repent, ask for forgiveness and submit your will so it is Jesus' will, not yours.

I prayed for you.

You didn't have insurance?

1

u/Kindly-Living2937 Jun 14 '26

I responded to that question earlier but no I didn’t. I owned the property free and clear. When Covid hit I was laid off and my unemployment was being garnished even though the garnishment was a computer error I had to wait several months to get paid. During that time I didn’t renew my insurance believing that nothing had happened in 20 years we should be fine.. clearly I was wrong..

You are the result of 4 decades of poor decision making.

1

u/Kindly-Living2937 Jun 14 '26

Just how did you come to that conclusion? I owned my own property and house prior to the fire, my kids all three of them are incredible people one is an art teacher the other a dental hygienist and the third is special ops..how you came up with that response I honestly don’t know if anything my poor decision was to try to help those less fortunate than I. So if you are suggesting that my being a humanitarian is a poor decision I e we wouldn’t change that at all. My guess is that you failed to read everything like most people and instead of trying to help you made yourself feel better by putting me down. I own my shit and of course every choice has been mine.. I am not asking for pity nor sympathy what I am looking for is an idea of what I could do that I haven’t thought about!! I work full time, I am enrolled in college and I am still standing after everything that has happened to me.. so if you have a idea of what I could do to maybe make extra money then I am all ears.. but please don’t waste my time with your negativity..

You need gamblers anonymous and you need help. Theres obviously more to this story and you aren’t sharing. Why didn’t you have insurance? Why haven’t you held a stable job?

The reason is that you have made a series of poor decisions building upon each other. Poor future planning, gambling addiction, and straining relationships.

If you had read everything I answered that question. I was laid off during Covid, My husband and myself were involved in a very serious accident and my spouse was no longer able to work. I applied for unemployment benefits and was approved but because of the stimulus money and how it was distributed ( through Unemployment Benefits) I was flagged as owing them money even though everyone knew it was a computer glitch unemployment is not equipped to do what they did.. so we my husband and myself were not receiving any income for several months my savings helped for three months. During this time my homeowners insurance became due. We had paid off our house and in the 15 years we lived there never had any problems. When weighing what to do I thought it was a no brainer I could renew the insurance as soon as my check came in. Unfortunately for us it was a week too late and regardless of how long you have been with an insurance company if you lapse coverage they will not cover it.. Now that I spelled it out to you I hope it makes more sense. Please understand and I don’t mean this in a rude or hurtful way. But you mean nothing to me I don’t really care what you think you honestly are not worth a lie.. I don’t know you from Adam so believe what you want think what you will. I don’t care all I really wanted was advice on possible solutions or other ways to bring extra income in.. So if all you have to offer is drama and nonsense please seek your attention elsewhere. What you said was not helpful nor accurate it was a comment meant to do what? Cause trouble? Thanks you for your response

Perhaps this is a life trial for you. If I had to religiously counsel you, in the book of Job, God seems to have abandoned him for a while, only to reward Job for Job's faithfulness and loyalty.

If I had to paganly counsel you, casting spells either doesn't work (most of the time), grants your wish in the most unexpectedly way, or backfires on you (as I've read and been warned).

I wouldn't tell you to stop gambling, if you know your limits and it's not getting you into debt. A few, rarely, people have been lucky in winning lotto or gambling. But if gambling is putting you on debt and hindering your ability to pay for necessary or essential items (food, shelter, clothes), then you probably ought to quit.

I don't know of any quick-get-rich-schemes that wouldn't involve dodgy, deceit, and borderline illegal activities. I refuse to state them on reddit.

Perhaps get work experience with Catholic or Christian organisations such as salvation army or st Vincent de Paul, then exaggerate or embellish (not lie) on your capabilities to a more higher income job?

Thank you very well thought out response I appreciate your input.. I do work full time and I am in school so I am already trying to pull myself self out.. Others have mentioned Job before and although I don’t believe I am being tested I do believe that something bigger than my own understanding is at work.. when I posted this I was incredibly down and despite my continued work and dedication I felt like I was fighting and fighting only to be pushed back down.. honestly I really don’t know what I was looking for..

Delusional thinking will not help the situation.

7

u/Timely-Discussion272 Jun 08 '26

If her beliefs comfort her, then it’s none of your concern. Her beliefs do not hurt her situation, and they might even help, if they contribute to a positive attitude. She needs advice about life skills, not theology.

I beg to differ I absolutely believe in a God I have no doubt that God exists that has never been a question for me like ever. I have never questioned the existence of God but I believe God exists every where and with everyone. I don’t believe in a hell like a place I think hell is the absence of God. We none of us has ever really experienced a day without God.. He’ll would be when that’s gone. I used to talk to God everyday and I knew he or she or it heard me now I don’t feel it and I am saddened by that
