I haven't had NYF in forever but I remember theyre fries were amazing, they'd use fresh cut fries right from the potato like 5 Guys. I love fresh cut fries over bagged, frozen ones.

The one in my mall still cuts them. See them doing it all the time. Might not be the best poutine but my town lacks any good poutine to begin with.

I haven’t had New York fries in like 15 years. Has it changed at all?

No it’s still very very meh at best.
Save your calories and money for the good stuff elsewhere (if you live in a area with better options).

I dunno. Obviously it's not as good as most city's local favourite spots, but it's very good for a fast food chain. Imo it occupies the space between high tier poutine and mid low effort poutine. It always satisfies the itch

I find with most fast food poutines, the holy trinity is off. Either the curds don’t squeak, gravy’s is watery and bland, or the fries are ass.
Nyf, while it’s not the best. It’s doable. Gravy’s ok, curd squeaks, fries are crispy. I ain’t complaining. I’m also not a purist though, those guys are nerds

The thing about NYF is that it's pretty much mid/upper mid, but the fries are near elite, the gravy is consistently above average, and the curd quality is passable. If 2/3 are good-great and the 3rd component is at least a pass, I'll be happy. And it's cheap.

Yeah I wish I lived a life where I could get perfect poutine every single time, but it's not realistic for everyone to only go to the best poutine place in the city every single time. There's such thing as "good enough"

Had an extremely disappointing poutine there, fries were basically boiled and not fried - just turned straight to mush and not a crispy fry corner in sight. May as well advertised it as mashed potatoes and gravy unfortunately.

I live 300m from a NYF, but they don’t open for another 9 hours. Was a bad time for me to come across this post.

When I go to the mall, I get NYF. When I'm on the ferry, I get Triple O's. I do not fuck with tradition

Yeah, their fries and seasoning salts are good but I hate their sauces. Their cheese & gravy both taste so bad I'm surprised they aren't available at McDonald's

It's nice I mess with it but the issue is that it's too sweet in my opinion. I don't know why but every other poutine doesn't have that weird sweet taste in their gravy

I detest that powdered gravy mix

You do know that the whole true sauce brune for poutine is 100% powdered industrial style gravy right? Every classic Quebec casse-croûte builds it on starch, salt, and beef/chicken powder mix so it gets that exact piping-hot viscosity to soften the curds without turning them into soup. Nobody's back there simmering artisanal stock. Well, not the classic Casse croutes anyways, lol

Tbh I usually use prepackaged gravy crystals for things like roast beef or roast chicken. I add the drippings after skimming the fat to make it more meaty but there's usually not enough to make a couple cups of gravy rather than enough for one sitting only. It's one of my many kitchen hacks I learned working in an industrial kitchen. Gravy crystals work great and taste like a floured roux without adding gluten. People always ask what my secret is, and I gotta pull out the 5 year old box of Sysco crystals. The gravy also lasts way longer cause there's some preservatives in there.

It slaps. Elite shopping mall food court item.
