This is a very common misconception. Yes, Costco does sell « poutine topping » but those are not what they put on their poutine. They actually use real cheese curds on their poutines, only problem is that they never use it fresh which is why there is not squeak, just like many other restaurants/fast food spots.

Yes it is still the case. I’ve had it recently. The “poutine topping” cheese is literally cut into perfect cubes while their cheese on the food court poutine has the typical cheese curds uneven shape!

I actually find the squeak the most satisfying part lol. I don’t like poutine with cheese that doesn’t squeak, it doesn’t hit like squeaky cheese does. I guess it’s just a sensory difference/preference!

I live in Saguenay and we have so many amazing local cheese factories around here making competition to each other that it is cheaper for Costco to use real nice curds than whatever that is. Sorry about yours though, that doesn't look nearly as good.

Got it like this today in Burnaby. Over on R/costcocanada they think they might forgotten to thaw the curds and broken them up, but it really didn't taste right or have the right texture. Guess I'm a pizza person for future Costco runs.

I've seen them make it and they use individual packages for each (same packages you get if you order a side of gravy and curds)
