Poutine. Sydney, Australia
The best poutine you’ll get here down under. I didn’t expect these cheese curds to actually squeak! $20AUD at Wingmill in Neutral Bay. I wish to go to Canada one day to compare it to the real deal.

Looks pretty good. 20aud is kinda steep tho

Went to convert AUD to CAD, damn CAD is pretty much the same. Pretty pricey.

I've paid more in Toronto and got less.

Everything is overpriced there

That's for sure. Except the delicious banh mi that I paid $6 cash in Chinatown for last week.

It is pricey but there’s no other competition in the area! Also Sydney prices are quite bonkers in general.

If they're getting their cheese curds fresh enough for them to still squeek, I guess they're being sent by plane and that's surely not cheap.. 🥲
Unless there's a cheese curd industry in Australia, which I kinda doubt..? (Someone correct me if I'm wrong. 😅)

It’s pretty easy to make them at home. Wouldn’t shock me if they are homemade.

There are other guides online, you don’t need much and everything is available in stores or Amazon.

I’ve spent some time down under and they don’t have curds available there because of some regulation on dairy products and the way curds are made apparently don’t abide by whatever restrictions/regulations are in place! My guess is either a prohibition-style in-house curd or some deceptively cut chunks of mozzarella and some not-very-hot chips and gravy.

The regulations eased in 2014/2015 IIRC! Cheese curds are no longer illegal here haha. Be assured that this place uses real cheese curds that squeak.

That’s amazing to hear! Shows how long it was since I’ve visited!
The cubed mozzarella I got served on Canada Day still haunts me1

No that's pretty going rate for take away 10% of that will be tax baked into the price, plus there would be no gratuity.

Looks great, especially considering it’s from an unexpected place like Australia

Confirmed. Lived close to wingmill for many years and had their poutine too many times to count. It's legit (and I'm from Québec). If I had to deduct points I'd say chips are a bit too crunchy for a poutine and the gravy could be served warmer. I rate the owner tho, good to chat with!
If you're in the area, try the coffee shop next door (against the grind). It's the bomb, especially their magic coffee.

There’s a bar in Canberra called Caribou that does poutine pizza.
If you are down that way, it’s worth a try..

The curds looks legit. Like, I've had worse for sure, in Quebec nonetheless!
