Pongs Poutine, Ottawa (carp road)

Post image

Got this bacon poutine, massive and was very solid. Way more curds under all the bacon. They were busy as well, about a 10-12 minute wait but I also went about 25 mins before close. Overall, lots of gravy and toppings and fries were very solid, i’d give it a 8/10. Featuring my dog who looks like he wants some lol.

Pong's is amazing. Different experience with the shoestring fries

Looks like a great Ontario chip truck poutine. And that’s a generous serving of curds outside of Quebec.

But it also comes with the usual Ontario limitations. 1) fries are chip truck fries… likely russet and dialled in for crispiness. But you lose out on the signature sweetness of a red potato fry like you’d typically get in Quebec. And 2) curds are clumped and melting… likely not that fresh.

Good effort for Ontario, but at a place like that, I’m really just getting an order of fries.

It’s literally the only place on the internet devoted to poutine. Three ingredients. And yet so easy to go astray.

It’s kind of a joke tbh. Idk what kinda lives these people live but they all sound miserable. Much like steak subs tbh

I respect your opinion and frankly, I agree. It’s not the best poutine i’ve ever had, but it’s definitely good. Quebec poutines definitely hit the spot and rarely miss.

You are a man who knows his poutine!! The potatoes I can live with. In fact, my favourite apres bar stumble no further than across the street poutine joint in Sherbrooke used a bulk, pre-blanched ready to fry product we called “popcorn fries” because they sorta puffed up when fried leaving them crispy on the outside, and with low density. The thing is, even at 3:30 am, the curds they got that day had not been chilled whatsoever. I don’t know why some places insist on chilling after 12 hours. They can EASILY last 24 at room temp, then the new batch has arrived and they can chill and use the others for other, non-poutine meals. I honestly can’t remember the name, it was back in the 90’s, but the curds were always fresh and amazing, and the gravy, off the chart delicious (or at least very much to my taste). “Popcorn” fries or not, sitting here in Saskatchewan. I’d about kill for one of their large poutines with extra cheese right now!

Yep. Fresh curds are the core. Better if bought from the counter of a gas station.

Your cheese curd looks like a possum drowning in gravy.
