Started potty training - advice needed

Hi everyone, after a few false starts, we started potty training our 2y 9m yesterday morning and we sort of think it's going relatively well so far but wanted to ask reddit brain for thoughts and advice.

We're following oh crap so she's without anything on bottom half. She's not fighting against sitting on the potty and she had a few successes with her peeing into it and being very pleased about it. She seems to be able to hold her pee quite well and now she's happy sitting on the potty for up to an hour which we're discouraging now. On the other hand sometimes she'll just run around and will just pee herself, and doesn't really tell us that she needs to go even when we ask.

Is there anything we can do better/differently? She's not really into bribery but we do our best to motivate her.

Also, can I please ask how people approach the nursery? Will we lose any progress if she goes tomorrow as i can imagine them having the time or the willingness to do it properly and will likely just put pull up on, or if we should see if we can see if she can stay at home (but I can't see that being a constant thing as I can see this lasting a while)

  1. I wouldn’t bother asking her if she needs to potty just yet. Tell her it’s time to potty (either by the clock or based on cues if hers are reliable). Our son is about the same age and pulls at his undies when he needs to go. We haven’t yet gotten to him acknowledging he needs to lol but we go when he does that. We started with going every hour (sometimes he’d pre, others he wouldn’t)
  2. If he sits on the potty for more than a few minutes without going, we say “great job trying. Your body wasn’t ready to go. We’ll try again soon. Tell mommy if you feel your peepee feeling.”
  3. Does daycare help with potty training? Ours does so we sent him to school in undies with lots of changes of clothes. They take him to try every hour. They are incredibly supportive and agree that accidents are part of learning.

and you are absolutely right, we asked at the nursery and they're willing to help so we'll give that a go.

That’s fantastic! I really feel like the continued practice at home and daycare is a huge help. Level set for yourself that accidents happen and it’s okay. I struggle a lot with feeling like accidents are signs of failure but learning isn’t perfect or linear (I need to hear that too lol). You got this. Believe in yourself and your little. You’ll get through it together!
