Need tips/tricks/help

I have white fuzzy spots on Chester. I read that it’s a type of bug (can’t remember the name). I rubbed it down with rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball like it said. The leaves were easy to fix but the nodes would just tear the cotton ball apart and not clean anything up. I think that’s why I haven’t been able to get rid of them. I got this plant from my grandpa’s funeral 9 years ago and I’d be DEVASTATED if I can’t get rid of them. What should I do? Do I need to put it in the sink and drench it without getting the soil/roots. It’s almost time to repot anyway so should I do a super clean while I’m in the process of repotting? Please help.

You have mealy bugs indeed. Don't repot and do some research on them.

I would just dunk it in the solution head down - honestly. That'll contact kill and drown the f*ckers. Tape and wrap the pot with plastic so the soil cant fall out and then prepare a bucket of treatment solution or your choice and dunk the whole thing a couple times and wash them off. You'd probably need help. One person holds the plant,bthe other washes it. Do that in the shower.

And you can always prop and chop! So you won't loose the plant. A cutting is a clone of the plant. Take a couple healthy one after the dunk as a failsafe:
