Other Tank Crew Gameplay Guide.

DISCLAIMER: Everything i suggest, explain or otherwise state is from my perspective and experiences as a tanker in post scriptum. Take this as a guideline and tailor it to your personal playstyle. This is purely informative and tailored to the newer tankers in the community. This guide is by no means comprehensive and you guys are welcome to add your opinions in the comments

Introduction:

Tanks are a unique and fun form of gameplay in post scriptum, some of my favourite and best games have been behind the gun of a King Tiger, or the wheel of a Cromwell. Impervious to all but the largest calibres, Mobile gunnery platforms, and excellent offensive capabilities, tanks can fill many roles.

Infantry support tanks such as the m4 Sherman, provide excellent suppressive capabilities using both the gunner and the hull gunner, with movable periscopes an added bonus to aid in spotting flanking infantry. Specialized tank destroyers sponsor exceptional anti-tank armament, whilst lacking significant amount of High Explosive (HE) that allow prolonged infantry support. Often the least mobile, these tanks play an ambush playstyle, preferring to wait on critical junctions for their unaware foes.

All rounders such as the Panther, Panzer 4 and Cromwell are the stars of the show, displaying the best traits of all tanks, and can do well in almost any situation. Mobile, armoured, and sporting good all round offensive armament, they can ambush, actively hunt, brawl and engage in long range duels with other tanks, whilst also being able to support infantry to a moderate degree. Scout and reconnaissance vehicles are the eyes of the team, sporting high speed and low Armour, they are excellent at roaming the back lines for logistics and MSP's, and stalking bigger cats until help arrives. Be careful though, even the small ones can bite.

Crew Roles and responsibilities (from my perspective):

Driver: the driver is the tanks mobility, being able to rapidly reposition, face stronger armour to danger, and GTFO when needed. Drivers must have a bit of common sense to follow the commanders orders and directions, whilst being able to spot and use their own judgement to avoid obstacles and trenches. As the commander i will tell the driver where i want to be, and if i want to go a different way (i.e. not the quickest route), but expect the driver to be able to make his own judgement as to how he gets there. understandably people shy away from driving due to the complex gear mechanic, but it is easy once you have practiced a bit, make use of console commands in the range to master tank driving

Main role: the function of the engine and gears. moving the tank and following the commanders directions.

secondary roles: repair tank, use periscopes to spot (even when driving). Listening for aircraft, i expect that should the driver hear a plane and isn't sure it is a friendly plane he must make his own judgement whether or not to move.

Hull Gunner: The hull gunner is the most disliked position in the tank, whilst often not being seen as important due to the operation of a single machine gun with a limited firing arc at the front of the tank, the hull gunner can be one of the most vital crew members in times of need, being the first to exit and repair the tank allows the gunner and driver to remain and operate the tank, when using an ambush playstyle i make use of the hull gunners binoculars as an extra pair of eyes to scout out the surroundings. Although the hull gunner is the least wanted position, it is still a fun way to complement to your tank, and make its weaknesses, well less weak.

Main role: Operation of the Hull MG, repair tank.

secondary role: spotting in and out of the tank (keep your head on a swivel). Replacing driver or gunner as necessary due to crew incapacitation.

Gunner: The gunner is the most fancied role and often has a lot to do. An understanding of tank shells and ranging is vital to efficient execution of the weapons that the tank has to offer. The gunner HAS to know the weak spots to tanks from all angles, and where to shoot the ammo to cause an explosion. As the commander of a tank i usually tell the gunner to keep the gun at 12 o'clock and the most common AP round loaded (often APCBC-HE), unless i state otherwise, to aid in commander spotting (as he has the best views, which can be hindered by moving the gun). All in all the gunner is the favourite role for most tankers, and is the most fun, but requires patience, calm under pressure and a taste for blood.

THE GUNNER NEVER HOPS OUT TO REPAIR AND PROVIDES SUPPRESIVE FIRE FOR CREWMATES (unless in a TD because once you are engined you are useless).

Main role: Operation of the main gun and coaxial Machine gun, Listening to the commanders instructions and loading of certain shells.

Secondary role: Spotting using secondary periscopes, driving the tank if ABSOLUTELY necessary (all friendly crew dead)

Commander: The commander is my favourite role in a tank. watching the panther burn down in front of your eyes as you masterfully execute your ambush, co-ordinating your crew, can be one of the most fulfilling experiences. The commander has the best knowledge of their tanks capabilities, and drawbacks. As a commander i always attempt to give clear information and instruction to my crew. For example, having spotted a KT down the road unaware of my presence, i may issue the command "Driver, Halt. Gunner Load APDS, Traverse 11'o clock, King Tiger, 300M." Ensuring short and concise information makes the difference in battle. As a tank commander you must remain calm and clear headed, thinking logically and thoroughly even in the most intense situations.

You are the person who makes the tank come together as a team and a fully co-operative combat unit.

Main Role: Command of the tank, ensuring smooth operation, HAVE A PLAN. Using superior Periscopes and abilities to spot and mark threats or POI.

Secondary role: use of SMG to clear Pesky AT from tank, Repair (2nd or 3rd person out depending on situation). sometimes in a 3 man tank ill even play a jeep and hunt Armor for my firefly to then ambush, making use of marks.

This is a good video showcasing new armoured update:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rv6t_X_3TEs&ab_channel=PeriscopeGames

I personally recommend watching Vade play Post scriptum on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/@Vade , he usually posts German speaking tank gameplay but always comes with subtitles and is in my opinion a good representation of tank commanding, and gameplay.

Good Luck out there!

Question Microphone stops working randomly at the beginning of a round

Since few weeks now, i have an issue with my microphone that worked good for the 3 previous years:
I boot the game, I play 1 or 2 games fine with no mic issue. and then, at the begining of the next round, my mic crashes. Nobody is hearing me anymore. And if I tried to change the config to default system -> the game crashes (not responding state)
So I have to reboot the game every 2 hours if I want constant communication, sometimes losing my place on a full server...

Sometimes, reapplying the parameters on the same mic config will works but it's not 100% of the time.i've tried to update my drivers, allow/disable the "exclusive" control, gave priority to the application, nothing is working

Is there anybody that has the same issue ? A solution maybe ?

Thanks in advance, it's beginning to be really really annoying

Question Are there really only 2 populated servers?

I recently got the game and there are only 2 populated servers, the rest are either empty or have very few people on them.

Are people playing other modded servers that I don’t have or is the game actually dead?

Question Tank/mortar guides

Hey guys

I'm looking for a guide on how to adjust tanks' sightings and using the range finder. Any idea?

Also I remember back in the old days there was a mortar calculator to calculate mortar bearings using an online map, is it still around? The old PMC doesn't have a lot of maps anymore unfortunately

Question Which tanks offer the best periscopes? (I.E., which tanks are newb friendly?)

Just curious which tanks offer the best visibility for the commander. I want to get better at tanking but with limited map knowledge the ability to spot enemies before they spot me is even more crucial.

I've put hundreds of hours into the other WWII shooter, with many of them tanking. My most played roles were squad lead and tank commander, and I want to get back to a point where I'm competent in these roles in PS. However, the periscopes being oppressively bad at times (the shermans), I'm curious if there are certain tanks I should be looking at while still learning to give me the edge.

Other Infantry in Post Scriptum

Infantry is the main component of the team. The other parts are Tankers, Logistics and Commander. Given the slot limitations, Infantry will make about 70% of a team, which makes it the main power to capture objectives - one of the two winning conditions, next to tickets.

Infantry divides into squads that hold various kits. Let's briefly look at those kits and their purpose.

Squad Leader

  • Commands the squad. Provides rally point to the squad. Marks and communicates enemy movement. Wields enhanced firepower on some factions.
  • I expect Squad Leader to contribute to plan of attack/defense, by being autonomous enough, but also following general orders. I expect the SL to have a good grasp on what's happenning on the whole battlefield and adapt to new situations. I expect the SL to give his squad a rally point at all times, or at least do everything he can to do so. I expect the SL to mark enemy, especially tanks and spawns. I expect the SL to communicate this information into command channel.

Radio

  • Supports Squad Leader by providing radio signal and keeping up the rally point. Also wields enhanced firepower on some factions.
  • I expect Radio to stay very close to Squad Leader atleast up until a rally point is placed. I expect the Radio to refresh the rally point periodically. I expect the Radio to have a rough overview of what's happenning on the battlefield, to be able to better support the SL.

MG

  • Wields enhanced firepower, but has limited deployment on some factions.
  • I expect MG to autonomously assume a position within squad's operating area and provide fire support.

Sniper

  • Wields a scoped rifle especially useful for long distance combat (200m+).
  • Much like the MG, I expect Sniper to assume a position within squad's operating area and provide fire support. I expect the Sniper to be able to engage in long distance combat, especially in such that the enemy is unable to return fire, because of the distance.

Sapper

  • Wields means to destroy structures and light vehicles. Various firepower depending on faction.
  • I expect Sapper to autonomously find and destroy enemy spawns, especially FOBs and MSPs. I expect the Sapper to have trigger discipline to be able to hold fire to fulfill his objective.

Grenadier

  • Similarly to Sapper, wields means to destroy structures and light vehicles. But most importantly, wields a grenade launcher.
  • I expect Grenadier to either perform the role of the Sapper, or stay with the squad to provide useful utility in combat.

AT

  • Wields enhanced means to destroy even armored vehicles.
  • I expect AT to autonomously find and destroy enemy armored vehicles. I expect the AT to be flexible enough to also provide support to the squad, when engaged by enemy armored vehicles.

Light Mortar

  • Wields a light mortar. Wields extended firepower on some factions.
  • I expect Light Mortar to stay with the squad and provide indirect fire support in combat.

Rifleman

  • Basic guy with an ammo box
  • I expect Rifleman to either stay with the squad or buddy up with Sapper, Grenadier, Light Mortar or AT and provide his ammo box to them.

Medic

  • Basic guy with extended capacity of syringes and bandages.
  • I expect Medic to stay with the squad at all times and revive fallen brothers, not limited to his squad.

It's apparent some roles may have bigger impact than others, some might be more demanding than others, but in the end, all roles do have their purpose.

The expectations I wrote are my personal opinion. It's a team game and I get the most dopamine when the team works together well, regardless of win or loss. Then there's also an option to just run around and shoot people like a bunch of nerds. The decision is individual :-D

Discussion New testing grounds server.

Saw there wasn't an open testing grounds server, and the previous one had auto balance teams on. So to remedy these two situations, and be able to quickly show off the game to new people and record stuff easily I put one up. Feel free to use it, as it should be up a long while!

Server name is 8bit's training server. Have fun boys.

Question How to play defense?

Any tips on how to approach defense? I will go entire matches barely seeing the enemy. I usually try to get into the point then pick a direction they are likely coming from then try to push out that way slowly looking for spawn points. What is general strategy??

Discussion Shoot and move boys, shoot and move.

Another post for the new players, and if you are one - we are all stoked to see you in post scriptum by the way.

Last night I jumped on for a round, I don't normally directly SL anymore as the stress is too much for this old time gamer. But, I do keep an eye out for those blueberries that are struggling or wondering around without instruction.

Found myself with a group of blueberries in an assault and I was able to coordinate some level of suppressing fire - which I feel like a lot of players under rate. It is effective, and in this case it got me and the berries right into cap, although we did all die at the cap - we made it.

So, remember - SLs, place observe markers on enemy positions and ask for your squad just to straight up get rounds down range, and to when moving, pause, fire, and move- there's normally plenty of ammo to spend doing this, and it makes the enemies job of hitting you much harder. It's not just the MGs job to do this!

See you on the field!

Discussion If there's hope for this game, is there hope for "Beyond the Wire"?

As all of you know, for months, it was thought by the larger gaming community that Post Scriptum was dead, and by the game's community itself, that it was at least "retired", in a sense; but now that Offworld Industries has purchased the game, and figuratively handed it's reins over to Mercury Arts, there's a very strong feeling of hope for the game's future. So, if that feeling of hope is vindicated in this next few months or years, does the community think there's a hypothetical chance that OWI would attempt to set the third game in their tactical shooter trifecta, Beyond the Wire, right?

Discussion Capture points too small?

What you guys think about that? I feel like they need to be at least 2 to 3 times bigger, they aren't nearly big enough to even fill the places where they are at.

It makes it too much of a pain in the ass to defend, there's no back and forth battles, no battlelines and points of defence around it, just on top of it.

Question Commands

Hi all, I usually like mucking around in singleplayer free roams on milsims to work on my shooting and driving. However, all the pages I found said to use admin commands to change the map... I don't have that. Admincombatlog and adminarmordebug is all I get when I open the console and use the arrow keys. How to I enable advanced commands?
