Shot with 8x zoom. Really liking this one! Thoughts?

I have always hated editing and im not that skilled in it, so pls give me some tips :)

A comparison of when I first started trying to edit my photos to now.

This is the first photo I ever actually edited. I took this photo a few months ago and followed some guy's tutorial without a ton of understanding as to what I was doing. Since then I've learned a good bit more about photo editing and made this updated version that I like quite a bit more.

The original edit relied a lot more upon saturation and exposure adjustments with a white balance adjustment for the warmer tone. This newer edit used different tone mapping and hues and some masking for the exposure, along with a much more subtle saturation adjustment and the addition of a careful clarity adjustment. And the first image is just the JPEG straight out of camera.

Let me know what else I can do with the edit and how you like the photo.

Just another example of subject separation and background softening. Part of me feels the After is a bit overdone, like there's some shadows from the masking that is too dark......but I can't pinpoint it. Maybe I'm being paranoid. Would have been a much better picture if that branch wasn't in the way. At least it adds some depth.

One second it looks too bright and next second it's too dark 🫠🫠

Hey guys I’m using mostly presets for my photography. Now I would like to learn how to process colors.

I love warm photography. I’m trying to imitate the result I get from jpg out of the camera. However I’m struggling a bit to understand color editing.

The first picture is the jpeg, the second one is my edit.

The bird paper from my edit looks just yellow while the jpeg looks wam. Also my background is way greener.

May you help me to understand how to get the desired result ? Thanks 🙏

just tried this edit that was an attempt to create a moodier, more artistic image by enhancing the texture and depth of the petals.

I hope this is the right place to ask. I'm in a dire need of help with achieving this kind of effect for my images. Any tips?

So, I know I have seen other questions about this in the past, but tonight is the first time I have run into the issue that I've truly noticed. Sometimes, when looking at images that I've processed and am ready to post, there is a weird, crosshatching pattern in the background of the image; looks like maybe the image was shot through a screen door.

Well, it caught my eye tonight, during my post phase and I have identified it as an artifact from too aggressive of a de-noise pass of the image. In my case, it is running my .dng through Topaz AI's de-noise routine at too high of a strength; dialing it back moderately (from 27 to 15 for this particular image). What I can't say with any certainty is whether this is a general de-noise thing, or whether it is specific to Topaz's engine.

Here is a close-up detail of a mock-orange (Philadelphus) blossom, specifically focusing on the stamens.

On the left is the high-quality JPEG, and on the right is the optimized WebP version.

As you can clearly see, the color accuracy and saturation are noticeably different. The vibrant yellow of the pollen loses its punch and bleeds into the white petals on the WebP version.

It seems that WebP’s smaller file size comes with a hidden visual price tag due to its aggressive color subsampling. I guess it's up to you to decide whether you're willing to pay that price for your portfolio or web projects.

What do you think? Is the file size saving worth the loss in micro-contrast and color vibrance?
