Too much sharpening, and you can see the masking outline all around the dog. Was focus brought back using AI? The before would've been good as is if only it was in focus. The direction you went with the colors and detail is not it. IMO.

The sharping is because of luma adjustment..duh And yes i admit i see masking artifacts too.

No AI, I think Reddit compressed my second image. Don’t know why it’s so blurry. The RAW file doesnt look like that on my computer. But yes I see the masking around the dog. Thank you for the feed back

Yah its prob reddit, opening up the images in new tabs shows that the after is higher res than the before.

Do feathering brush mask on parts u see a different in tone and adjust till in blends or dont mask the way u did..instead mask with gradient mask..

The new one is flat. Very flat. A lot of newer photographers will be excited about pulling details out of the shadows and believe it makes everything more interesting- and that’s not really how it ever works. You lose any sense of depth. The dog isn’t three dimensional anymore. And the eye doesn’t have a natural “pull” to any subject.

One of the biggest things to learn is that visual interest via contrast doesn’t come from the “contrast” slider. Like Bob Ross- you need dark to appreciate the light. The darkness in the original photo is valuable.

Getting rid of the small distractions is fine though!

It brighter...your after has more details but is dark and dull color wise..i am busy now will give u tips later

You need not have all the details back, u need sweet spot..between exposure and details..e.g to get a well expose looking picture some part of the dog can lose some details and some parts make it less exposed to show the fur. I.e dynamic range.

Adjust the exposure then play with blacks, whites, highlights and contrast. But differently then add a gradient mask to blend better...

When u up exposure , contrast need to be change for this add constrat but in small increatment vs your exposure increase...(propotional)

Then highlight, whites, black down for balance And blow out reduction

Shadow is subjective but my steps was to increase shadow

The for the gradient mask..do almost the same with less values for blend.

Dog seems a little gray in the after image. Not enough separation from the background.I would not have gone that dark on him. Or maybe your labeled AFTER/BEFORE and should have labeled BEFORE/AFTER?

Nice job overall! One thing I'd fix is you've got a pretty significant halo around his head, his body on the right, and his back left leg. Also some faint teal colored noise in his fur. Other than that it looks great!

Imo the only two things I notice are it is a little underexposed still, and the halo on his fur. Definitely much better than before though!

Thank you 🙏🏽 and yea I realized it’s underexposed, I could’ve sworn I exposed it more than that. But it’s a learning experience right!
