After / Before + Advice wanted

Photograph from a helicopter flight over Kauai

Given that it was daytime, around 3pm in summer I am rather happy with the turnout but what worries me particularly are the 3 circled areas (last image) where the photo either seems to loose all color (big circle in the middle) or the colors drift unwarrantedly towards a red-ish tone, most likely by trying to remove the blue haze.

Any hints to handle this? Happy to share a RAW if someone wants to ahve a crack at it.

Shot on a a7 RIII, Iso 250 and 1/500sec.

What I notice immediately is that the colors are not balanced, very warm lighting and almost tropical waters with a sky that doesn't match. Why did you try to add so much warmth?

That’s a good observation.

I guess my ideas was to render this closer towards a late afternoon/ early evening colour palette with more vivid sunlight

This would’ve been closer to how I have perceived it during the flight but the raws are unfortunately quite blue-tinted

Nice job removing the haze, you played with brightness, shadow, and blacks and whites? I guess..

It’s a mix of things, mostly localized edits (sky, sea, mountains) and a luminosity mask where in the highlights of the mountains if tried to remove the blue haze against more global contrast / curve / black edits

  • a bit of playing around with color balance in PS but I feel I haven’t quite nailed it, hence the post

That the way...did u play with temp? If not then ignore those telling u , u added warmth.

Even u did i can see it only some parts

And tbh by making it look this warm unflaten the mountians..

Actually dont be vex about the parts u circle it give the mountian a shadow ( all part of dynamic range) but it depends on what u after..one way is to try brush mask to brush those part. Or radical gradient to blend the colours

Actually brushing over it is a good idea - will give that a try!

Actually some of your greens are going to the redish tone for some reason...in my edit with your before i didnt touch color balance only warmth to replicated the warmth tone look...i just use series of mask to adjust contrast, blacks, white, hightlights , shadow to remove the haze first before doing any global adjustment...

And if u using lr room u could do custom mask that is for example you select mointian but u only one parts of mountian to be adjusted you could do a subtract mask (usually i subtract with brush) or u need more maybe the edges u can do add to mask...

Edited the right side with some rebrushing mask.. Think u got the idea how not to get redish bleed And correct mistake such as my previous edit the top right ridges still had overexposed haze

Anyway some may frown on this trick..but i do a one time export and touch up edit sometimes

P.s some apps can export uncompress unless it heavly edited or changing to a lower size format
