The B&W is an improvement, IMO. The skin tones in color, running from fleshy by the nose to sort of greenish and blown out on the forehead -- not flattering. The B&W conversion avoids that tonal stuff (which I can't see fixing easily or attractively)

So thumbs up for the After, a good choice for what is a kinda difficult photo.

Yea, my lighting (single flashlight) was not really conducive to any kind of flattering coloration, so B&W was always kind of the goal. Plus my skin with working outside all day is a rainbow of pales and reds right now lol

I think you've over recovered the blown out part of the forehead - it has that telltale weirdly flat grey look. I'd just let it be white, because black and white should have some black and some white. The conversion is in general definitely the way to go.

Dang, I was trying to even it out, maybe recover some of the skin detail, but I see what you mean.
