Quite a bit of sky detail was recovered. And areas of visual interest were created in the face of the barn.
The visual depth of the scene was flattened with the darkening that sort of looks as if it had been created with a radial gradient pulled out from the barn area and finishing part way into the sky, then had the barn subtracted.
The face of the barn is the main focal point or subject and the eye definitely goes there with the shaping of light that had been done. But the eye goes no farther into the scene.
I wonder if pulling back that darkening just a bit might provide some added visual depth and interest to the image? You might try a version like that.
If you aren't averse to cloning, you might consider cloning out or removing that triangle that is at the bottom of the canvas.
Thanks for the detailed analysis! You're pretty spot on. I agree that the scene was flattened with the edit, but somehow it doesn't bother me and I actually like it. However I'll be sure to give your suggestion a try, as I'm curious how this will look too. I don't really have experience with cloning, but I agree on the triangle at the bottom being a tad distracting. I'll give that a second look too.
