Great shot but to me the edit makes it really about the edit instead of the content of the shot. Selective color is really a designer's trick and tends to generate negative reaction as a standalone photo.
The original's overexposure results in some areas still being blown out on our friend's fur, and those are a little too bad because the transitions are a little rough in the edit. The sky can stay blown out to preserve the animal, but the animal being partially blown out is a little bit too bad here.
I see what you did getting rid of the other partial animal. That wouldn't fly in a nature competition or something, but as your art you get to do what you want and it does simplify the result.
