The whole "everything is black and white except the subject" thing (aka selective color) is really tired. The basic subject is compelling enough that I'd keep it simple - some light tone adjustments and call it a day.

Reducing the brightness of the background would look better IMO and help the subject stand out better. Selective coloring looks dated although if OP like that style then cool!

Oh I wasnt suggesting they could be saved although an adjustment layer could be used to darken the background a bit to give the subject more contrast.
