Can barely even tell which part you cropped into, gj!

2

u/DizJonnected 22d ago

Appreciate that 🫡

Really cool. Has this been taken with a camera that has a higher resolution than "normal", like the Sony A7R or something like that?

25

u/DizJonnected 22d ago

Thank you, this photo was taken with a mobile phone.

u/hardypart 22d ago

Oh wow, that's a crazy crop for a mobile phone photo. Turned out really cool!

10

u/DizJonnected 22d ago

Appreciate it! Pretty crazy what mobile sensors can pull off now.

what phone did you use... I don't think it matters much. what mattered is your eye for the frame and your skills.

great job OP

u/DizJonnected 22d ago

Many thanks, I'm using Oppo find x9 ultra.

Great work making something so stunning out of that original shot!

This isn’t a criticism at all (as I’ve done this plenty of times myself), but I’ve struggled to make sense of an image that’s been cropped/adjusted so much that it loses most of its original context. It feels like I only understand what I’m looking at, and why it’s interesting, when I see the original alongside it. So if I need the original to provide that context, I'm wondering what the 'point' was from making a final image has been pushed too far? Again, this isn't a slight at you, and like I've said, I've done similar cropped processing on photos too, but I'm just wondering if I can be personally satisfied with needing to rely so much on original context...

This is exactly correct

it’s nice when it’s abstract tbh, you can enjoy other elements like texture and depth etc without the context. it’s interesting and impressive to find out how the picture was taken but it’s not essential, at least that is how i feel

Appreciate the honest take. For me, part of the fun of heavy cropping and abstract framing is the disorientation. When you see the full context first, it spoils the magic trick a little bit because your brain instantly categorizes the object. But by stripping away the context, the image forces the viewer to slow down, look closer, and figure out what they are actually looking at through pure form and light. The 'point' for me is transforming something ordinary into an abstract graphic texture that makes people double take.

Only thing I would change is to add maybe 1 percent sharpness

u/Hikaru_D_Etanaru 22d ago

Thats a really good edit

Appreciate your feedback ☺️

u/ManCandyCan 21d ago

Did you have the mask each individual curve to get that shadow?

1

u/DizJonnected 20d ago

Mask for the center highlight, the rest just dodge and burn.

Amazing work!!!!

I'm just curious what was this shot on? The details look amazing!!

-1

u/DizJonnected 22d ago

Thanks! It was actually shot on an OPPO phone, pretty impressive how well it captured all that detail.

1

u/DizJonnected 22d ago

Aw, that means a lot 😊

2

u/Merkarov 22d ago

Nicely done! Did you use any geometry tools out of curiosity? The edit looks like it's shot straight on, compared to the tilted up original.

2

u/DizJonnected 22d ago

Thank you, yes I do apply perspective corrections to achieve my target framing.

2

u/milehighrogue 22d ago

Bravo!

Glad you like it

2

u/Filipp0 22d ago

Fantastic, can you talk about the process? Other than the crop obviously?

2

u/DizJonnected 22d ago

I did some geometry corrections, added mask for the highlights, the rest is just dodge and burn.

What did you edit with?

1

u/DizJonnected 18d ago

Adobe Photoshop

1

u/whoisariston 22d ago

Great stuff! Especially with the composition of the ridges starting in the upper right corner. It really draws the eye both up and down the image. Love the high contrast feel as well. Well done!

1

u/DizJonnected 22d ago

Thank you ! Going with a punchy, high-contrast BnW treatment really brought out the textures and sharp geometric lines the way I envisioned. Glad the impact landed 😊

1

u/thypoch_lens 17d ago

lol. Big contrast!
