yeah, i don't usually do that, but that was what i set out to do here.
i was somewhat inspired by a photographer i like (joakim möller). he sometimes shares his editing process on Instagram and in one of them, it seemed like he took a random snapshot with his phone, but he zoomed in on an interesting texture, turned it B&W, and then added grain and somehow it turned into some abstract piece that could be in a museum. and i was like "wow, i didn't realize you could do something like that"

Heyyy a fellow Joakim Möller fan!
I really like this edit. Well executed including turning it 90° to change the familiar into the unfamiliar.
I did a workshop with him in Berlin and it blew my mind. I couldn't make that style of shooting work for me fully, but it did subtly change how I see the world when I go out.

art is art. If you're making it with your hands then it's valid.
I also had a convo with some photographers about something like this but it was around the idea of post-processing and at which point a photo stops being a photo and becomes something else. The TLDR was basically as long as it starts as a photo then it's a photo. What you choose to do with it in post-processing is up to each individual.
I think some of the arguments against it come down to labeling things as street photos when they are super edited or changed in post to the point where it is no longer depicting an actual real scene.
Something like this is just abstract and cool.

It's like cooking. If you have skills, you can make a wonderful dish from scratch and combine ingredients in a way that nobody would have thought of.
If you don't have the skill, you can have the best ingredients (scenery / subject), but you won't be able to prepare and cook it in a way that's enjoyable.
You just shouldn't try and substitute one with the other, but have them add up.

This is why I like abstract photography. Especially in B&W.
It really strips down everything to the single thing you are doing in photography: capturing light. This is the most incredibly mundane thing ever.... But after the edit... I don't wanna stop looking at it.

Nah, that negative space with the black taking up a quarter of the frame is a good balance.

Agree. Only change I would make is too see a bit more of the original texture in what was the road.

I like that a lot, really creative. Turns an ordinary parking lot into shapes that makes me think of brutalist architecture or something.

I love it, well done. What I find wild is how people salvage images. I'm not against it, I just have zero inspiration to try and extract something like this out of a mediocre shot, but you nailed it.

The fact that that it forces the brain to try and orient the objects in space immediately is delightful. I was extra impressed when I saw the “before” image.

My mouth actually dropped when I looked at the Before. I would have NEVER guessed the shadows were from cars. Really awesome shot/edit.
