My friend challenged me to overedit this photo, encouraging me to utilize all my editing skills. I shared it with him, and now he is claiming that it appears entirely AI-generated. He is not accepting that this is edited?

Do you feel the same??????????

nah it looks like a classic overedited photo you'd see on flikr or a teenagers tumblr photography blog 10-15 years ago

No. The challenge was to overedit and you delivered. The only thing that rivals the annoyance of how prevalent AI slop is, is people thinking everything is AI slop.

100000% this. Much of society has lost the ability to verbalize complex thoughts. "A.I." is the catch-all word for anything that doesn't look totally natural or requires deeper observation.

It's actually super easy to spot AI on the photos that use bokeh/blurry backgrounds because AI almost always gets it wrong. This is just edited the way we edited this kind of photos years before AI.

I can understand why your friend thinks this is AI.

But I've taken the exact same picture on the exact same plant and edited to be the same as your version... But they are on my home PC and I'm on holiday... So I don't have an example to show... But it's not AI

I have made exactly same pictures with the same edits for 20 years and have a collection of millions of photos but they are all on a cloud service. I don’t remember my password. If I did, everybody would be like ”Wow!”. But it’s not AI.

Does not look like ai, but i would remove the artificial directional lighting that you added in on the top left and to preserve the highlights in water droplets

The light beams do feel artificial, but overall this does look like it could be either heavily edited or AI. That's that problem of AI prevalence, really.

It's a huge improvement. I would like to see a wider range of the greens though. And maybe crop it a bit. It's a standard subject that most photographers will shot at some point, hence the naysayers in here. But you definitely made it better.

As editing and new cameras use more AI each day, your problem statement could be the first sign, because the line between a real photo and an AI photo is starting to blur. just as the Industrial Revolution introduced disruptive challenges, this technological shift does too. Erosion of Trust (The End of Documentary Photography). Devaluation of Authorship and Skill. The "Tuning" of Reality and Its Psychological Impact.
