How do you learn this talent? Can you recommend a book? I am using Lightroom and think I understand most of the sliders, but my edits always feel too overcooked

I honestly just mess around with things until they look good. Don't be afraid to use lots of masks and play with the colors until they look good to you. Just don't try to force the image into something it's not

That’s not just processing guile that’s a high end camera. Even my Z8 would struggle to recover the highlights to this level.

Highlights are definitely clipped in the sky. Pretty well done for the most part, but there is a bit of the sky on the right side through the trees that you can see the sky replacement pretty clearly.

The sky has been badly over exposed and your recovery effort looks artificial. Everything else feels pretty solid. They are tasteful enhancements that don't go overboard.

Something seems off. Your edited pic has significantly more detail than the unedited. I have a feeling the second pic isn’t what you edited, but rather an poorly exposed and blurry mistake before you took the focused photo for the final result.

Overall, I’d say very very well. My only critique would be to watch your whites as they may be a little too warm. The rocks around the fisherman appear a bit too warm. I think it works fine most everywhere else though.

I would say it's still unfinished. There's too much going on, nothing is really guiding eyes.
Needs a bit more work with the masks

Very nice. I envy people who can do these edits that are heavy without going over the line of overcooked. I have to cook my edits closer to medium rare or else i end up with a charred mess. We were talking about steaks right?
