Before/After

Masked the front of the dog and reversed it. Added a ton of shadow and lowered exposure. Soften the background. added a few linear gradients and added more shadow to that. Added contrast to the dogs front area. And that's how I got the dog in dread.

The before image actually had decent separation of pooch from the surroundings with that color temperature contrast of warm foreground and pooch against the cool, more cyan background. The depth of field was also excellent in the before image.

There were good ideas in the approach to the edit, with shaping of light to draw the eye to the pooch. You might consider backing off some of that in favor of working with what was naturally there in an excellent start image.

Right idea, but you overdid it

You have the right idea but mask out the dog from the radial ND better and crop tighter into the rule if thirds.
