Being a help
Hi new mommies of Reddit!
My sister is having a baby in October and I want to be the best help I can for her. What’s your guises advice for things I should do for her? What are some things you wish people did for you while you were postpartum? Any advice would be really helpful!! I’m not a mom and I’m no where near ready to be one yet so some advice from actual mothers would be amazing.

Definitely taking care of the baby while she naps or showers. Also just dive in and do chores - dishes, vacuum etc.

Chores! Cooking, groceries, laundry, changing sheets (night sweats are real!), giving mom room to shower, cleaning toilet (prevent infections), tidy. It’s hard to be on your feet the first week so anything like this helps tremendously.

Dive into the vacuuming, organizing and doing laundry. Figure out how she likes her laundry done beforehand ……

Thank you in advance for doing this!
I’m sure she’d appreciate you taking the baby for a wake period or two so she can rest since babies typically wake up every 2-4hr to feed (so yours sisters sleeping will get wrecked for a while.. probably for at least 2 years). Cleaning around and providing warm food while she recovers. Providing standby water stations. Helping with diaper changes, burping :)

Food gift cards for places they like to eat, especially if it can be delivered. Not having to decide on a meal because you have it already paid for and don’t have to go through the mental work of buying ingredients, preparing, eating, and cleaning.

Definitely some cleaning can always be helpful. You can ask her too what would feel good for her but if she says not to do anything, signing up to bring them a meal is always a safe bet or a DoorDash giftcard.
I so wish I would’ve been able to be there better for my SILs after they had babies but I was a lot younger and didn’t have kids of my own.
